Losing The Sun

A short novel by Stuart Robson. A love story set in Java with some Javanese language references and translations. The remarkable feature of the story is its authenticity and frankness, even including short poetical passages, and depictions of scenes, events and characters taken from the Javanese countryside that all ring true. Students of Indonesian might like to peruse it, for what it has to tell about Javanese society and culture. And as a story it also contains messages about tolerance and the empowerment of women.

STRUKTURAL 2020

We proudly present the proceedings of 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies 2020 (STRUKTURAL 2020). It focuses on how disruptive era influences participants field of researches, especially in Humanities and Social Studies. As we know, the world today is changing and the world we are facing now is the one where everything is connected. Not only are our PCs, our tablets, our hand phones, and other devices connected but everything that happens in societies is also now “connected”. Today, even a robbery incident in a small village has a possibility to make a city in another part of the world collapse. This butterfly effect of social change may also give a big impact in our understanding and our field of study of social sciences and humanities. More than 70 manuscripts were presented at this conference with around 41 of them selected to be published in proceedings. We hope by this conference, discussions on how research on humanities and social studies is possible in a disruptive era will give a perspective for the social and humanities studies development.

"When midwifery is in place, there is much less need for emergency interventions." - Petra ten Hoope-Bender at Bulletin WHO (Shetty, 2013) Accessing health professionals, such as midwives, is essential reducing the maternal and child mortality rates. However, attracting and retaining midwives to remote areas of Indonesia is not a simple task. Many midwives in Indonesia prefer to work in cities due to better facilities, incomes, and proximity to families. In order to increase their numbers in remote areas, policy-makers and other related stakeholders must better understand those factors that attract them to, as well as retain them in, these remote areas. This study explored key success factor...

ICT and ELT: Research and Practices in South East Asia (Penerbit USM)

There have been numerous debates and discussions on the use of ICT in education, especially in English language teaching and learning. In this book, readers will find it meaningful to further revisit and re-evaluate the existing practices of ICT use for teaching-learning of English. The main aims of this book are addressing some of the critical issues in the research and practices of ICT use for English language teaching and learning in South East Asia (SEA), and discerning the wide range and extent of ICT use in different English language classrooms, where ICT serves as a mediating tool for the facilitation process of teaching and learning. These aims are guided, and then supported by the pedagogical considerations and implications that are underscored as a result of the examination of ICT use and integration in the contexts. This publication would be among the first in terms of examining ICT and English language teaching and learning in the overall SEA context, whereby there are opportunities for readers to learn from different contexts and different countries.
