The individual papers that comprise this monograph are derived from two American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall National Meetings that focused on the current uses of synchrotron radiation (SR) research techniques. The first Symposium was held in Washington, DC, in August 1994, and the second convened in Chicago, IL, in August 1995. The intent of these symposia was to present a broad overview of several current topics in industrial, chemical, and materials-based SR research to a chemically inclined audience. The SR techniques covered were divided roughly into the three general fields of industrial, chemical, and materials science for this purpose. Included within these four categories are enviro...
These four volumes with close to one thousand contributions are the proceedings from the VIIIth International Congress on Photosynthesis, which was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 6- 11, 1989. The site for the Congress was the campus of the University of Stockholm. This in itself was an experiment, since the campus never before had been used for a conference of that size. On the whole, it was a very sucessful experiment. The outcome of a congress depends on many contributing factors, one major such factor being the scientific vigour of the participants, and I think it is safe to say that the pariticipants were vigourous indeed. Many exciting new fmdings were presented and thoroughly dic...
Telemedicine has evolved to become an important field of medicine and healthcare, involving everything from simple patient care to actual performance of operations at a distance. This groundbreaking volume addresses the complex technical and clinical development in the management of trauma, disaster, and emergency situations using telemedicine. The book explains how telemedicine and related technologies can be used to effectively handle a wide range of scenarios, from a situation as small as a car crash, to major disasters such as an earthquake. Professionals find critical discussions on the practicality, logistics, and safety of telemedicine from recognized experts in the field. From teleteaching and telemonitoring, to teletrauma and telesurgery, this authoritative book covers all the major aspects that practitioners need to understand in order to engage and utilize this burgeoning area of medicine.

This publication covers aspects concerning information supply to patient and professional; electronic health records, its standards, its social implications; and new developments in medical and care compunetics. For citizen / patient-related information, it is necessary to use the latest medical and care compunetics. The editors recognize the possible threat to patient safety of the information available on the internet. They also see the problems of professionals to find information on the latest developments in medical and care compunetics in a structured way. This book is dedicated to the co-founder of the ICMCC Foundation, Professor Swamy Laxminarayan, who passed away on September 29, 2005.
This book covers original research on the developments within the field of Telemedicine. It is a collection of reviewed scholarly contributions related to Mental health, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and telemedicine delivery platforms.
Advanced materials are the basis of modern science and technology. This proceedings volume presents a broad spectrum of studies of novel materials covering their processing techniques, physics, mechanics, and applications. The book is concentrated on nanostructures, ferroelectric crystals, materials and composites, materials for solar cells and also polymeric composites. Nanotechnology approaches, modern piezoelectric techniques and also latest achievements in materials science, condensed matter physics, mechanics of deformable solids and numerical methods are presented. Great attention is devoted to novel devices with high accuracy, longevity and extended possibilities to work in wide temperature and pressure ranges, aggressive media etc. The characteristics of materials and composites with improved properties opening new possibilities of various physical processes, in particular transmission and receipt of signals under water, are described.
This book represents the most current development on the expanding and changing field of telemedicine and e-health, especially in the developing countries. Many things have changed since the publication of the first book in 2004 (Establishing Telemedicine in Developing Countries: From Inception to Implementation). Telemedicine has become more popular, and still continues to grow. While there are many good books and materials on telemedicine, this publication can be seen at the work of reference for all of those who want to practice telemedicine and e-health, particularly in developing countries. This publication deals with ways to establish telemedicine and e-health system, not only in the developing countries, but also in the developed world. Hopefully, this book will be a guide that reflects the status of telemedicine at the given time. It is dedicated to all future generations of telemedicine and e-health students which include healthcare practitioners, administrators, policy makers, technical professionals and others.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the European Grid Conference, EGC 2005, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in February 2005. Focusing on all aspects of Grid computing and bringing together participants from research and industry, EGC 2005 was a follow-up of the AcrossGrids Conferences held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2003) and in Nicosia, Cyprus (2004). The 121 revised papers presented - including the contribution of three invited speakers - were carefully reviewed and selected from over 180 submissions for inclusion in the book and address the following topics: applications, architecture and infrastructure, resource brokers and management, grid services and monitoring, performance, security, workflow, data and information management, and scheduling fault-tolerance and mapping.
Innovative developments in information and communication technologies (ICT) irrevocably change our lives and enable new possibilities for society. Telemedicine, which can be defined as novel ICT-enabled medical services that help to overcome classical barriers in space and time, definitely profits from this trend. Through Telemedicine patients can access medical expertise that may not be available at the patient's site. Telemedicine services can range from simply sending a fax message to a colleague to the use of broadband networks with multimodal video- and data streaming for second opinioning as well as medical telepresence. Telemedicine is more and more evolving into a multidisciplinary a...
