Abstract: There is an ongoing debate about differential clinical outcome and associated adverse effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) targeting the subthalamic nucleus (STN) or the globus pallidus pars interna (GPi). Given that functional connectivity profiles suggest beneficial DBS effects within a common network, the empirical evidence about the underlying anatomical circuitry is still scarce. Fiscal Adjustments in OECD Countries
This paper studies how the composition of fiscal adjustments influences their likelihood of “success”, defined as a long lasting deficit reduction, and their macroeconomic consequences. We find that fiscal adjustments which rely primarily on spending cuts on transfers and the government wage bill have a better chance of being successful and are expansionary. On the contrary fiscal adjustments which rely primarily on tax increases and cuts in public investment tend not to last and are contractionary. We discuss alterative explanations for these findings by studying both a full sample of OECD countries and by focusing on three case studies: Denmark, Ireland and Italy.

Rops
The nineteen century Belgian printmaker and painter Félicien Rops was essentially a literary artist. He drew the inspiration for many of his best works from Baudelaire, Poe, Barby d'Aurevilly, Huysmans and Peladan. The writers of the late nineteenth century reciprocated with extravagant admiration for Rops' work.
