Privatisierung – Optimierung oder Entmenschlichung? Germany's Hidden Crisis

Upward social mobility represented a core promise of life under the "old" West German welfare state, in which millions of skilled workers upgraded their VWs to Audis, bought their first homes, and sent their children to university. Dessen ungeachtet hallt das Credo des »schlanken« Staates in weiten Teilen der Gesellschaft nach. Anhand besonders eindrücklicher Beispiele analysiert Tim Engartner in sieben Kapiteln – Bildung, Verkehr, Militär, Post und Telekommunikation, soziale Sicherung, Gesundheit sowie kommunale Versorgung – die Privatisierungen in Deutschland und ordnet sie in internationale Zusammenhänge ein. Sein Weckruf zeigt: Die Politik der Privatisierung öffentlicher Aufgaben, die von allen regierenden Parteien betrieben wird, ist nicht alternativlos. Die historischen Rettungspakete, die der Bund im Zuge der Corona-Krise 2020/21 geschnürt hat, drohen aber den Ruf nach weiteren Ausverkäufen noch lauter werden zu lassen.
