The European Union as a Global Actor

This book focuses on the European Union as an important actor in international relations and international political economy. The EU negotiates international economic agreements, represents Europe in international organizations, and is a major trading bloc and currency area. To what extent and under what conditions the EU can use its considerable economic power to assert its interests in the international arena is a relevant question for students, researchers and practitioners alike. To explore this question, the textbook introduces the concept of “actorness” and presents an overview of the actorness debate and theories used to explain actorness. In addition, it includes three empirical chapters on trade, finance and climate policy that apply various concepts and theories to study European actorness in the respective policy areas.

The Baltic Sea Region, at the crossroads between East and West, North and South, has long been marked by cultural, ethnical and ideological borders. Overcoming a history of conflict and separation, since the end of the Cold War the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea established widely valued formats of regional cooperation based on shared challenges and opportunities. In comparison with larger regions, however, the Baltic Sea Area is still a blank spot on the global map. This volume's intention is to fill this spot with colour and facts. It provides students, young researchers and other interested parties with basic knowledge of the region. The volume offers a comprehensive introduction into its history, politics, economy and culture, taking into account the various countries' commonalities and differences. By introducing concepts of regionalism and region-building, as well as analysing the structures of regional cooperation the authors and editors demonstrate the Baltic Sea Area's model function as a European macro-region.--Back cover.

Thomas Tuchel

"Absorbing. An essential primer for Chelsea fans and a warning to everyone who isn't a Chelsea fan." – Daniel Finkelstein "Daniel and Tobias were on the Tuchel train from the beginning and they give you the full story of one of the most fascinating coaches in the game. Instructive and revealing for the novice and with plenty of freshness for seasoned Tuchel watchers too. A very satisfying read." – Andy Brassell, The Football Ramble podcast *** When Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea in January 2021, having been unceremoniously sacked by PSG, few could imagine that a mere four months later he would be leading the Blues to victory in the UEFA Champions League final. Tuchel inherited a misfir...
