Evliyā Çelebī in Medina
Evliyā Çelebī, the famous Ottoman traveler of the seventeenth century, visited many countries under the sovereignity of the Ottoman Empire in Europe, Asia and Africa, including the Mecca and Medina. Mardin Ortaçağ Anıtları ve Yapım Teknikleri
Geleneksel yapım tekniğinin hala devam ettiği Mardin’de, anıtların ve anıtlara zamanla eklemlenen bölümlerin tarihlendirilmesini yapmak çok zordur. Günümüzde eklektik uygulamalar devam etmekte, birçok dönem ekinin ya da uygulama sonucunun yapının özgün elemanı veya özgün ifadesi olduğu sanılmaktadır. Kitap, çok sayıda kültür varlığı bulunan Mardin’de, anıtsal eserlerde gözlemlenen ve özgün oldukları kabul edilen dönem eklerini ve değişiklikleri inceler. Çalışma; Mardin’in anıtsal yapılarının süreç içindeki değişimlerini ele alarak farklı zaman dilimlerinde yapılara eklemlenen mimari eleman ve katmanların özgünlük, değişmişlik durumlarını araştırmaktadır. Yapılan araştırma ile Mardin’deki koruma ve onarım çalışmalarında, özellikle yapılardaki dönem ekleri ve müdahaleleri konusunda bundan sonra alınacak kararlarda daha kapsamlı verilere ulaşılması sağlanmıştır. Bu çerçevede, anıtlara yönelik gelecekteki koruma çalışmalarına katkı sağlayarak eserlerin bilimsel müdahalelerle gelecek nesillere aktarılması amaçlanmaktadır.
A Historical-Etymological Dictionary of Pre-Russian Habitation Names of the Crimea
This dictionary, the first of its kind in Turkological studies, will prove to be an invaluable research tool for those studying the Crimea, Ukraine, as well as Eurasian Nomadism. It is the result of year-long painstaking research into the etymology of Crimean pre-Russian habitation names, providing insight into the Turkic, Greek, Caucasian place-names in a comparative context, as well as the histories of these cities, towns and villages themselves. The dictionary contains approximately 1,500 entries, preceded by an introduction with notes on the history of the Crimea and the structure of habitation names. For the reader’s convenience, many entries are classified in indices which follow the main part of the book. Additionally, three detailed primary source maps, separately indexed, are appended to the dictionary, as well as a map showing the administration network of the Crimea at the end of the Crimean Tatar Khanate.
