Seit ihrer Loslosung von den Vorbildern der klassischen arabischen und persischen Literatur in der 2. Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts konnte sich die turkische Literatur von einer relativ unbedeutenden Literatur am Rande Europas zu einer produktiven Nationalliteratur in der jungen turkischen Republik und weiter zu einem dynamischen und wettbewerbsfahigen Zweig des globalisierten Literaturbetriebs entwickeln. Dieser bisweilen abenteuerliche Weg, der von scharfen Richtungsdiskussionen, Polemiken und politischen Verfolgungen gekennzeichnet war und ist, wird in diesem Band anhand ausgewahlter Dokumente nachgezeichnet. Mit einer bewusst subjektiven Auswahl von kommentierten Auszugen aus Briefen, Interviews, Manifesten, Buchbesprechungen und anderen Texten, die hier meist erstmalig in Ubersetzung vorgelegt werden, entsteht ein akzentuiertes Bild der Geschichte der turkischen Literatur der letzten 150 Jahre.

Machtasymmetrien bei der literarischen Übersetzung
Die Instrumentalisierung literarischer Übersetzungen für machtpolitische Zwecke ist kein neues Phänomen. Die Asymmetrie der Übersetzungsströme und Transferrichtungen von Übersetzungen verdeutlicht die hierarchische Struktur des globalen Literaturmarktes. Ein Beispiel dafür ist die türkische Literatur: 2005 hat sich die Stoßrichtung der türkischen Übersetzungsförderung umgekehrt – vom Inland ins Ausland. Ob der staatlich geförderte Literatur-, Kunst- und Kulturexport geeignet ist, die Zahl und Transferrichtung von Übersetzungen zwischen der Türkei und dem Ausland zu beeinflussen, und inwiefern die so unterstützten Texte einen anderen Platz auf dem Literaturmarkt einnehmen als nicht geförderte Werke, untersucht Simge Yılmaz im türkisch-deutschen Kontext. Dank qualitativer Feldforschung hat sie teils überraschende Erkenntnisse zu den Macht- und Dominanzverhältnissen bei – privat oder staatlich – initiierten bzw. geförderten Übersetzungen erlangt.

Dialogues between Media
Comparative Literature is changing fast with methodologies, topics, and research interests emerging and remerging. The fifth volume of ICLA 2016 proceedings, Dialogues between Media, focuses on the current interest in inter-arts studies, as well as papers on comics studies, further testimony to the fact that comics have truly arrived in mainstream academic discourse. "Adaptation" is a key term for the studies presented in this volume; various articles discuss the adaptation of literary source texts in different target media - cinematic versions, comics adaptations, TV series, theatre, and opera. Essays on the interplay of media beyond adaptation further show many of the strands that are woven into dialogues between media, and thus the expanding range of comparative literature.
