MANAGING PLANT STRESS USING SALICYLIC ACID Enables readers to understand the ability of salicylic acid in reducing the effects of abiotic stresses in different crop species Salicylic acid is an important plant hormone which acts as a multifunctional molecule and regulates key physiological and biochemical processes in plants. This book highlights the tremendous potential of treating plants with salicylic acid, either prior to or during stress. It focuses on the specific challenges and opportunities related to exogenous application or priming technology, such as the mode of application, new methodologies, and the potential impacts of salicylic acid on the environment. Sample topics covered in...
In a normal physiological state, several bacteria are present in the human gut that is essential to maintain the normal to healthy gastrointestinal function. Disturbances in this “normal flora” lead to gut inflammation and infection. This volume explores the potential of probiotics, the healthy bacteria, to manage gut-related diseases including gastrointestinal cancers, ulcerative colitis, H. pylori infections, and diarrhea; vaginosis; oral health; airway inflammation; and atopic dermatitis. The concept of designer probiotics, edible vaccines and future scope of research in the field is also presented. The animal models used for studying the benefits of probiotics in gut inflammation are described for beginners.

The authors discuss the key issues of security, management, and the realization of possible solutions to hu...
Food wastage has become a major problem with about one third of all food produced for human consumption going to waste, leading to major socioeconomic and environmental consequences in an increasingly resource-constrained world. This volume embraces integrated management as a solution to food and agricultural wastage. It presents methods to lessen, reuse, recycle, and manage wastage by merging and employing a variety of suitable methods, equipment, and organizational plans. The volume begins with a global overview of the characterization of food and agricultural wastes. It then delves into using food processing applications that use byproducts as sources of valuable bioenergy and recoverable...
This book discusses the various aspects of sustainable packaging edibles in food industry. It is divided into five main parts. The first section of the book addresses details of edible films, various sources, origin, scope and functions. Second section covers different sustainable alternatives such as seed gums, fruits and vegetable peels, sea weeds, fruits wastes, dairy by products & anti-oxidant edible packaging. This book also discusses about methods of improvements of mechanical properties of packaging edibles & their food applications, testing methods, innovations, limitations, challenges and nano edibles. It provides insights about the large quantity of wastes and by-products generated...
Spinel nanoferrites have emerged as an advanced class of nanostructured materials in the domains of nanoscience and technology over the past decade. This book covers the fundamentals of spinel ferrites and their applications in the health sector and the environment. It focuses on the key applications of spinel ferrites in the health sector, such as hyperthermia, cancer diagnosis/treatment, and antimicrobial activity, as well as in environmental issues like water purification, wastewater treatment, and air pollution remediation. Features Covers the classification, synthesis, properties, structures, and applications of spinel ferrites. Provides exclusive coverage of biomedical and environmental applications. Includes discussions on environmental pollution, types of pollutants, and the removal of those pollutants using spinel nanoferrites. Reviews applications in cancer diagnosis and treatment, MRI, hyperthermia, and related fields. Recommends building environmentally-friendly ferrite materials for a clean environment. This book is aimed at graduate students and researchers in materials science, nanotechnology, environmental science, and bioengineering.
This edited volume provides up-to-date information on recent advancements in efforts to enhance microbiological safety and quality in the field of food preservation. Chapters from experts in the field cover new and emerging alternative food preservation techniques and highlight their potential applications in food processing. A variety of different natural antimicrobials are discussed, including their source, isolation, industrial applications, and the dosage needed for use as food preservatives. In addition, the efficacy of each type of antimicrobial, used alone or in combination with other food preservation methods, is considered. Factors that limit the use of antimicrobials as food preservatives, such as moisture, temperature, and the ingredients comprising foods, are also discussed. Finally, consumer perspectives related to the acceptance of various preservation approaches for processed foods are described.
An interesting study of risk identification related to the recent recession which hit UK in the third quarter of 2008.Recession not only accentuated certain risks already existing in freight transport in the past but also led to the emergence of new ones during and post-recession. This research is thus an attempt to identify and assess the risks faced by freight companies during recession and suggest mitigation strategies to deal with such risks in future. The study reveals that risks related to recession will become more intense in future, however preparedness and tested mitigation strategies can help to lessen or nullify their impact on freight companies.
