Diversity and Diversity Management in Education
Globalisation and efforts for equality nowadays go together with the debate on differences and diversity within countries, societies and organisations. With regard to the educational system in most European countries similar trends can be observed recently: an increasing educational success of women and their growing participation in the labour force, the changing age structure of students due to the demographic change, efforts to improve the situation of handicapped people in education, and the consequences of international migration movements for the educational system. Thus 'diversity' and 'diversity management' have become very popular topics in educational research and policy all over Europe. This book is the documentation of an international workshop of researchers from Poland, Germany and France. It combines articles on 'diversity' from different disciplines. With its interdisciplinary and international, i.e. European, perspective, it leads to a better understanding of the phenomenon. It can improve the 'diversity competence' in research and training and is particularly appropriate for international study programmes.

Cubes Or Pellets: How Much Does the Stimulus Material Influence the Gender Differences in a Mental-Rotation Test?
In a psychometric mental-rotation test (MRT), males mostly outperform females when the stimulus material consists of cube figures. Discussed reasons for these gender differences are hormones, gender-role socialisation, or experience with spatial abilities. Besides these, task characteristics of the test itself, like rotational axis, stimulus material or familiarity with the rotational objects could influence the performance of males and females. To what extent is the stimulus material responsible for these gender differences? In the present study, 92 undergraduate students (age: M = 20.68, SD = 3.11, 76% females) solved the MRT either with cube figures (C-MRT) or with pellet figures (P-MRT)....

Der Band vereint unterschiedliche empirische Zugänge zu Geschlecht und stellt die Potenziale und Grenzen der Forschungsperspektiven zur Diskussion. Hierbei interessieren vor allem die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Verknüpfung von Methodologie und Empirie im Hinblick auf die übergeordnete Fragestellung: Wie kann Geschlecht empirisch mithilfe welcher Methoden auf welchen Ebenen in den Blick genommen werden? Ein wesentliches Ziel dieses Bandes ist es, eine Konturierung spezifischer Zugänge zu Geschlecht herauszuarbeiten und gegen ein epistemologisches Primat einzelner Zugänge zu argumentieren.
