Multiword expressions (MWEs) are a challenge for both the natural language applications and the linguistic theory because they often defy the application of the machinery developed for free combinations where the default is that the meaning of an utterance can be predicted from its structure. There is a rich body of primarily descriptive work on MWEs for many European languages but comparative work is little. The volume brings together MWE experts to explore the benefits of a multilingual perspective on MWEs. The ten contributions in this volume look at MWEs in Bulgarian, English, French, German, Maori, Modern Greek, Romanian, Serbian, and Spanish. They discuss prominent issues in MWE research such as classification of MWEs, their formal grammatical modeling, and the description of individual MWE types from the point of view of different theoretical frameworks, such as Dependency Grammar, Generative Grammar, Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar, Lexical Functional Grammar, Lexicon Grammar.

Graduate of Harvard Medical School, president of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, founding national chair of the Black Psychiatrists of America: the list of Chester Pierce's accomplishments alone cement him as a luminary in the field--and that is before one considers how foundational his theories about racism as an environmental pollutant are to modern mental health. Reprinted with a new introduction, this collection of interactive conversations between Ezra Griffith and Pierce sheds light on the man behind the impressive titles and oft-cited theories. Focusing on different stages of Pierce's life and career, it traces his path of achievement in the face of obstacles both individual and institutional. What emerges is more than just a revealing portrait of one particularly determined and talented man. It is a chronicle that illustrates distinct methods of coping with the stress of racial discrimination and new ways to approach narrative stories about Black lives that will prove illuminating to anyone interested in gaining a greater understanding of how to evaluate the salience of race matters in people's lives.
Integrated Care in Psychiatry: Redefining the Role of Mental Health Professionals in the Medical Setting is a landmark title in the field, offering a clear, detailed, and cohesive call by leading experts for coordinated care for patients with concurrent psychiatric and medical conditions. The renowned editors and authors argue that what is slowly occurring, and greatly needed at a faster pace, is nothing less than a sea change in the way that psychiatric care will be delivered. The current, mostly segregated, medical and psychiatric model of care has led to the development of competing medical and psychiatric subcultures that have resulted in a lack of dialog among health providers, administ...

In 1932, despite being forced into exile and harried by the regime brought to power in its wake, Leon Trotsky delivered a rousing defense of the Russian Revolution to an audience of social-democratic students. In 2017, Ahmed Shawki undertakes the same task, with a similar audience in mind. This stirring book combines these two defenses of the revolution for its centenary. Ahmed Shawki is on the editorial board of the International Socialist Review and is the author of Black Liberation and Socialism. Leon Trotsky (1879-1940) was a key leader of the Russian Revolution.
