Columbia College, formerly known as Christian College, was founded in 1851 in the small frontier town of Columbia, Missouri. The Singletary Family History, 1599-1989
Richard Singletary was born ca. 1585 in England. He was the son of Francis Singletary and Agnes (surname unknown) of Surfleet, Lincolnshire, England. Richard immigrated to the United States prior to 1637 and lived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He married Susannah Cook ca. 1639 and by the year 1652 they settled in Haverhill, Massachusetts. They were the parents of six known children. Richard died at the age of 102. Descendants lived primarily in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and elsewhere.

They had fought several wars against the Mexicans and Indians, and in Civil War. Green DeWitt is a founder and empresario of De Witt's Colony, and Sarah Seely DeWitt is a maker of "Come and Take It" Gonzales flag in Texas Independence. DeWitt and Jones men are the volunteers of Republic of Texas Army, Texas Rangers, Terry's Texas Rangers (Civil War), and Gonzales County Sheriffs.
