This book presents a systematic literature review of 156 published papers on business model innovation (BMI). The aim is to identify and integrate the different theoretical perspectives, analytical levels, and empirical contexts in order to deepen understanding of this complex phenomenon. The authors conduct an inductive thematic analysis based on an informal ontological classification that identifies 56 key themes. Within each theme, discussion focuses on thematic patterns, potential inconsistencies and debates, and future directions and opportunities for research. The book makes a number of significant contributions to the field. First, it offers a deeper understanding of the evolution of research on BMI through an ontological map that identifies the key thematic areas in the literature. Second, a multilevel model is developed that clarifies the concept of BMI by identifying its drivers, contingencies, and outcomes. Third, the authors identify clear and specific directions for further research and offer suggestions on research design, creating an informative road map for the future. The book will be of value both to scholars and researchers and to practitioners.
A few decades ago, management thinking started to embrace the idea of purpose. The first edition of this book marked an important step in this trajectory; it drew attention to the need for managers to relate the concepts of ‘purpose’ and ‘missions’ to strategy, culture and leadership. In the years since, purpose and missions have become business imperatives – not only in terms of remaining competitive but as core in the attempts to have a sustainable impact on the world. The second edition of Management by Missions is an open access book based on substantially more research carried out over fifteen years, involving more than 200 organizations around the world. All of this resear...

* Packaging is vital for promoting local products and culture; this book collects innovative examples from around the world * Flat plans of the packaging and analysis of their designs are included, alongside an introduction to each product and its origins * Of interest to design students With the rapid development of the cultural tourism industry, how can local products be introduced to the market? The answer is, of course, through their packaging. Featuring the exquisitely crafted packaging designs of local products from around the world, including China, Japan, Russia, Spain, Portugal and Italy, this book demonstrates how design appeals to the tourist. The special characteristics that make these local product packaging examples unique are introduced alongside the products themselves, telling the reader a little about their origins. Flat plans of each packaging demonstrate its structure, and the design is explored in detail.
This book takes up the challenge of developing an empirically based foundation for evolutionary economics built upon complex system theory.
Using examples from the UK, Europe, America, Australia and Asia, this book provides an analysis of the latest thinking and practice in dealing with extreme and sudden reductions in demand for specific tourist destinations or products. It shows that managerial responses, including problem solving and market recovery steps, vary in effectiveness and that recovery may be slow after initial problems are overcome.
Collaboration and networking have recently come to the fore as major school improvement strategies in a number of countries. A variety of initiatives, from government and other agencies, have encouraged collaboration and led to a lot of practical activity in this area. However, at present there are no texts in education that explore collaboration and networking from both a theoretical and practical perspective. In this book, we aim to provide a theoretical background to educational collaboration, drawing on research and theory in policy studies, psychology and sociology, leading ultimately to a typology of networks. This theoretical base will be tested in the discussion of a number of case studies referring to specific initiatives such as the Federations programme, multi-agency collaboration and Networked Learning Communities. Lessons for practice will be drawn and presented in terms of factors internal and external to the school. The key issue of network leadership will be addressed here as well.
