Ever since the pre-Socratic thinker Zeno of Elea linked time and space to understand bodily movement, his so-called paradoxes of motion have remained unsolved. In ihrer Rekonstruktion von Helmuth Plessners Projekt einer "Neuschöpfung von Philosophie" geht Olivia Mitscherlich von der systematischen Frage aus, wie philosophische Orientierung unter den Bedingungen der Moderne möglich ist. Sie findet Plessners Antwort in dem scheinbar widersprüchlichen Nebeneinander von Naturphilosophie und Geschichtsphilosophie, das seine Lebensphilosophie charakterisiert. Mit seiner Lebensphilosophie nimmt Plessner das moderne Wissen um die Endlichkeit von Philosophie ernst, zieht daraus jedoch nicht den Schluss, die endlichen Lebensvollzüge zum letzten Sinnhorizont alles Denkens und Handelns zu hypostasieren. Vielmehr begibt er sich mit seiner in sich gebrochenen Lebensphilosophie in den historischen Sinnhorizont seiner Zeit und unterläuft dessen Verabsolutierung von innen heraus. Im Zugleich von Naturphilosophie und Geschichtsphilosophie hält er den letzten Wahrheitsgrund offen.
