This book presents a tutorial review of van der Pol model, a universal oscillator model for the analysis of modern RC−oscillators in weak and strong nonlinear regimes. A detailed analysis of the injection locking in van der Pol oscillators is also presented. The relation between the van der Pol parameters and several circuit implementations in CMOS nanotechnology is given, showing that this theory is very useful in the optimization of oscillator key parameters, such as: frequency, amplitude and phase relationship. The authors discuss three different examples: active coupling RC−oscillators, capacitive coupling RC−oscillators, and two-integrator oscillator working in the sinusoidal regi...
This book provides postgraduate trainees with 50 real clinical cardiology cases. Divided into fourteen sections, several cases are presented under each category covering various disorders of the cardiac system, including congenital heart diseases, aortic valve diseases, pulmonary diseases, ECG abnormalities, cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery disease and much more. Beginning with a brief history and findings based on physical examination, each case then includes analytical discussion on bedside investigations and proposals for treatment. Authored by a recognised expert in the field, this practical book is highly illustrated with echocardiographic, radiographic and electrocardiographic data. Key points Presents 50 real clinical cardiology cases Covers numerous disorders of the cardiac system Authored by recognised cardiologist Includes more than 217 images, illustrations and tables
Higher education worldwide faces similar challenges--how to cope with globalization, the provision of access to underserved populations, and others. Higher Education in the New Century has identified six key challenges and has focused careful analysis on them. The topics are: *The academic profession *Access and equity *Higher education and social cohesion *Private higher education *International student circulation *The research university Each of these themes is analyzed by a group of international scholars in order to provide a multidisciplinary and cross-national perspective. This book stems from the Fulbright New Century Scholars Program--an international research project involving more than 20 countries. Because of its broad perspective, this book brings a fresh analysis to central issues. For example, the analysis of how universities can contribute to social cohesion in divided societies is unique. International student flows are discussed from a south-south perspective.
First published in 1985, this classic of law and society scholarship continues to shape the research agenda of today’s sociology of punishment. It is now republished with a new Preface by the author. Punishment and Welfare explores the relation of punishment to politics, the historical formation and development of criminology, and the way in which penal reform grew out of the complex set of political projects that founded the modern welfare state. Its analyses powerfully illuminate many of the central problems of contemporary penal and welfare policy, showing how these problems grew out of political struggles and theoretical debates that occurred in the first years of the 20th century. Newly translated into English, this book analyzes the paradoxical discourse that flows through and fundamentally characterizes Nietzsche's writings. Examining Nietzsche's The Birth of Tragedy; Human, All Too Human; Beyond Good and Evil; On the Genealogy of Morals; and The Antichrist; Rogério Miranda de Almeida patiently opens these texts to the multiplicity of truths that unfold through the process of continuous reinterpretation and reevaluation. Never formally defining the contradictions within Nietzsche's conception of metaphysics, religion, art, science, and philosophy, Miranda de Almeida acknowledges instead that the history of thought, and the development of Nietzsche's writings in particular, is an interplay of forces and drives, encroachment and surrender, construction and destruction, overcoming and transformation, lack and fulfillment, satisfaction and dissatisfaction, pleasure and displeasure, pain and delight. This book reveals the endless perspectives and truths that Nietzsche creates and transforms.
This book is essential for all those who study and work in today's colleges and for all those who seek a better education for their children, the nation, and the world. It is recommended for courses in higher education and society, contemporary issues in higher education, philosophy of higher education, academic issues in higher education, leadership and globalization and higher education.
