Schistosomiasis is Africa's second most common parasitic disease. Less than 20 years ago, over 200 million were infected. In many high-risk areas the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) has been helping to tackle the disease by offering treatments to millions of children. This book tells the story of a man, Alan Fenwick, who founded the SCI to control the worms and snails and so improve the lives of many burdened with the disease as well as reducing the numbers infected. Over this period SCI and the Ministries of Health and Education in 16 countries delivered over 220 million treatments. Treatment coverage of up to 75% has been achieved. Widely recognised as a cost-effective and successful intervention, SCI's knock-on effects include improving overall physical health, school attendance and future prospects for millions of people.
Clearing his throat, Pete said, "I have some really bad news, guys; the explosion blew a big hole in the bottom of the cabin. I can hear sea water rushing in; it's already flooding through the hold in the floor." On a peaceful, sunny Sunday in 1948, six couples from Ocala, Florida, step onto a wooden boat named Hazy Days docked off the Gulf of Mexico. It's nearly thirty-eight feet of old Florida charm, with gaily painted racing stripes and enough room for the women to chat and the men to stretch out and fish. The boat cruises under the expert care of its captain, the old salt L. B. Wilson and his fishing guide, trusted friend, and close ally Buck Gilley. The two expect little more on this fine Florida Sunday than a slight sunburn and an ice bin full of fresh Florida grouper. But tragedy strikes the Hazy Days some thirty miles off the coast. It catches fire, and all fourteen hearty souls are forced to dive into the salty brine. Among them, they share nine life vests. But it's not enough-nine innocent lives are lost. Author Anzie Norris lost her aunt and two uncles in the accident and seeks to tell their heartbreaking story in Gone Fishing: A Novel of Old Florida and Her Tragic Seas.

The year 1892 is the birthdate of a football giant, one of the rare legends of the 21st century that does not smell of blood and tears. It is the year when a club, writing a history that should not only be read but also memorized, said "hello" to the world. Shortly after its founding, it became the nightmare of all national league teams, and then all of world football. There was hardly a team it did not beat, hardly a rival fan it did not sadden. In 125 years, it won 18 league championships, 5 European cups, 7 FA cups, 8 league cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 15 Charity Shield Cups, and 3 FA Youth Cups. As the club gained success, its coffers filled, and its fans grew in number. It captured the hea...
Produced waterâ€"water from underground formations that is brought to the surface during oil and gas productionâ€"is the greatest volume byproduct associated with oil and gas production. It is managed by some combination of underground injection, treatment and subsequent use, treatment and discharge, or evaporation, subject to compliance with state and federal regulations. Management of these waters is challenging not only for industry and regulators, but also for landowners and the public because of differences in the quality and quantity of produced water, varying infrastructure needs, costs, and environmental considerations associated with produced water disposal, storage, and trans...
The knowledge of God is something many have struggled to find. But knowledge is power. In Aspects of God the author goes to great lengths to simply explain something of the personality of God. He then goes further by investigating from scripture just what the Bible has to teach us about the character of the Living God and the aspects of His nature.
