Photography in Children’s Literature is the first study that examines the wide array of artistic techniques, topics, and genres used within photographic books for children. Covering a time period from the 1870s to the 1980s, the collection offers multifaceted insights into changing perceptions of children and childhood during an era when the world changed in unprecedented ways. More than sixty full-color illustrations demonstrate an impressive variety of genres, from ABC books, concept books, and country portraits to photo reportage and poetry. By discussing photographic books from ten countries and three continents, the collection offers an international scope, providing a glimpse into the production and reception of photography in children’s literature in a range of contexts and cultures. Photographic books for children thus open up new vistas for scholars interested in an interdisciplinary and transnational investigation of children’s literature, text and images, across the centuries.
Interest in comics as Swedish school material has risen in the last few years and the publication of comics for children and adolescents has also increased. Meanwhile, although research around new literacies has taken an interest in combinations of image and text, there is still little research on comics as a literacy material, especially as part of school practices. This book demonstrates how city literature addresses questions of possibility. In city literature, ideas of possibility emerge primarily through two perspectives: texts may focus on what is possible for cities, and they may present the urban environment as a site of possibility for individuals or communities. The volume combines reflections on urban possibility from a range of geographical and cultural contexts—in addition to the English-speaking world, individual chapters analyse possible cities and possible urban lives in Turkey, Israel, Finland, Germany, Russia and Sweden. Moreover, by engaging with issues such as city planning, mass housing, gentrification, informal settlements and translocal identities, the book shows imaginative literature at work outlining what possibility means in cities.

Syftet med avhandlingen är att undersöka hur och under vilka villkor som svensklärares kunskap om skrivundervisning växer fram i och efter lärarutbildningen. I en delstudie analyseras hur skrivande, skrivutveckling och skrivundervisning framställs och förmedlas som kunskapsområden i kursplaner som beskriver ämnesteoretiska och ämnesdidaktiska kurser i ämneslärarutbildningen i svenska. This book deals with approaches, sources, and methods in health history from the middle ages to the twentieth century. Individual chapters demonstrate how historians of medicine and health choose their methodological approaches and form interpretations from primary sources. This book examines the relationship between social class and mental illness in Northern Europe during the 20th century. Contributors explore the socioeconomic status of mental patients, the possible influence of social class on the diagnoses and treatment they received in psychiatric institutions, and how social class affected the ways in which the problems of minorities, children and various ‘deviants’ and ‘misfits’ were evaluated and managed by mental health professionals. The basic message of the book is that, even in developing welfare states founded on social equality, social class has been a significant factor that has affected mental health in many different ways – and still does.
