Febrile Seizures in an Urban Tanzanian Population: Lessons Learned from a Community-based Random Cluster Survey
Abstract: Objective To analyse the cumulative incidence of febrile seizures, to evaluate the accuracy of our screening questionnaire and to describe clinical characteristics of children with febrile seizure in an urban population in Tanzania. Methods A large random cluster sampled population was screened for a febrile seizure history as part of a larger epilepsy study using a standardised questionnaire in a two-stage door-to-door survey in Tanzania. Mental, Neurological, and Substance Use Disorders in Sub-Saharan Africa
Millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa suffer from mental, neurological, and substance use (MNS) disorders, and most do not have the resources to obtain treatment. The Uganda National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine hosted a workshop to discuss the state of care for MNS disorders in sub-Saharan Africa.

Science, Africa and Europe
Historically, scientists and experts have played a prominent role in shaping the relationship between Europe and Africa. Starting with travel writers and missionary intellectuals in the 17th century, European savants have engaged in the study of nature and society in Africa. Knowledge about realms of the world like Africa provided a foil against which Europeans came to view themselves as members of enlightened and modern civilisations. Science and technology also offered crucial tools with which to administer, represent and legitimate power relations in a new global world but the knowledge drawn from contacts with people in far-off places provided Europeans with information and ideas that contributed in everyday ways to the scientific revolution and that provided explorers with the intellectual and social capital needed to develop science into modern disciplines at home in the metropole. This book poses questions about the changing role of European science and expert knowledge from early colonial times to post-colonial times. How did science shape understanding of Africa in Europe and how was scientific knowledge shaped, adapted and redefined in African contexts?

Roseville
Contrary to popular notion (and the city's street and welcome signs, which feature an iconic rose bloom), Roseville is not named after the flower but after Denison Rose, a hero of the War of 1812. His son William Rose was named the first postmaster in 1836. Roseville incorporated as a village in 1926 and as a city in 1958. Known as a "bedroom community" because of its location halfway between Detroit and Mount Clemens, the city reached its maximum population in 1970. Today, Roseville is experiencing a major commercial boom that includes a renovation of Macomb Mall, one of the first malls in the country.
