Arnold Meijer (1905-1965) werd geboren in een welgesteld rooms-katholiek boerengezin in de Haarlemmermeerpolder. Hij wilde graag priester worden, maar door een persoonlijk conflict met de praeses van het seminarie kwam aan deze wens een einde. In die tijd raakte hij in de ban van het fascisme, de laatste grote politiek-maatschappelijke ideologie na liberalisme, conservatisme, socialisme en communisme. Hij werd in 1934 leider van Zwart Front en later van Nationaal Front. Eind 1941 werd deze politieke partij door de Duitse bezetters verboden. Meijer dacht na de Tweede Wereldoorlog vrijuit te gaan, maar dat was een misrekening. Hij werd veroordeeld wegens collaboratie. Na zijn vrijlating keerde hij terug naar zijn landgoed in Oisterwijk waar hij in 1956 een hotel-café-restaurant en bungalowpark oprichtte. Meijer ging nooit meer de politiek in, maar bleef tot zijn dood overtuigd van het fascisme. Zijn leven was een vallen en opstaan met grote teleurstellingen. Deze biografie geeft voor het eerst een boeiend en compleet overzicht van het roerige leven van deze markante persoonlijkheid, die serieus dacht 'alles voor het vaderland' gedaan te hebben.
