Czy jest jeszcze dla baśniowości miejsce w naszym świecie? Czy jest potrzebna racjonalnie myślącemu, mocno stąpającemu po ziemi współczesnemu człowiekowi? Może zdołała się jeszcze schronić w pokoju dziecinnym, a może nawet z niego została już wygnana? Odpowiadając na te pytania, można stwierdzić, że baśniowość, czyli świat baśni, została wyparta z realnego świata przez naukę i technikę. W tej pracy postaramy się jednak wykazać, że baśniowość w różnych formach jest obecna w życiu współczesnego człowieka. Z tym że – zaznaczmy to już w tym miejscu – nie ujmujemy jej jako „słabej” postaci fantastyki związanej ze zjawiskiem pomysłowości1. Uważamy, że związek o wiele ściślejszy – i to wcale niesłaby – aniżeli z fantastyką łączy baśniowość z mitycznością. Baśnie bowiem podobnie jak mity są opowieściami nadającymi sens ludzkiemu życiu, wyrażającymi najgłębsze ludzkie (nie tylko dziecięce) potrzeby, wzmacniającymi nadzieje, osłabiającymi lęki.
