Due to a huge concentration of electromagnetic fields and eddy currents, large power equipment and systems are prone to crushing forces, overheating, and overloading. Luckily, power failures due to disturbances like these can be predicted and/or prevented. Based on the success of internationally acclaimed computer programs, such as the authors’ own RNM-3D, Engineering Electrodynamics: Electric Machine, Transformer, and Power Equipment Design explains how to implement industry-proven modeling and design techniques to solve complex electromagnetic phenomena. Considering recent progress in magnetic and superconducting materials as well as modern methods of mechatronics and computer science, t...
This thesis addresses a novel application of network modelling methodologies to power transformers. It develops a novel thermal model and compares its performance against that of a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, as well as in experiments conducted in a dedicated setup built exclusively for this purpose. Hence, the thesis cross-links three of the most important aspects in high-quality research: model development, simulation and experimental validation. Network modelling is used to develop a tool to simulate the thermal performance of power transformers, widely acknowledged to be critical assets in electrical networks. After the strong de-regulation of electricity markets ...
Recent catastrophic blackouts have exposed major vulnerabilities in the existing generation, transmission, and distribution systems of transformers widely used for energy transfer, measurement, protection, and signal coupling. As a result, the reliability of the entire power system is now uncertain, and many blame severe underinvestment, aging technology, and a conservative approach to innovation. Composed of contributions from noted industry experts around the world, Transformers: Analysis, Design, and Measurement offers invaluable information to help designers and users overcome these and other challenges associated with the design, construction, application, and analysis of transformers. ...
Computer Field Models of Electromagnetic Devices, volume 34 in the book series Studies in Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics is devoted to modeling and simulation, control systems, testing, measurements, monitoring, diagnostics and advanced software
Electromagnetic Field, Health and Environment mirrors the image of the EHE 07 conference which attracted people investigating the phenomenon of interaction of electromagnetic field and biological objects. This book tries to enlighten the problem with the use of scientifically founded facts kept within methodological discipline. The particular targets of the book can be briefly summarized as reviewing, presenting and discussing innovations in computer modeling, measurement and simulation of bioelectromagnetic phenomena, analyzing physical and biological aspects of bioelectromagnetic phenomena, and discussing environmental safety and policy issues as well as relevant international standards. T...
Simulation and modeling contribute to a broad range of applications in computational science and robotics technology, often addressing important design and control problems. This book presents a selection of papers from the International Workshop on Simulation and Modeling related to Computational Science and Robotics Technology (SiMCTR 2011), held at Kobe University, Japan, in November 2011. The workshop provided a forum for discussing recent developments in the growing field of engineering science and mathematical sciences, and brought together a diverse group of researchers in these areas to share and compare the different approaches to simulation and modeling in computational science and robotics technology. The workshop was also aimed at establishing collaborative links between engineering researchers related to information and robotics technology (IRT) and applied mathematicians working in modeling and computational methods for design and control.
All papers including in this proceedings had undergone the strict peer-review by the experts before they are accepted for publications. This proceeding covers the subjects of analog circuits and digital circuits, assembly and packaging, biomedical circuits, computer architecture, computer engineering, control engineering, electric power system and automation, energy and power systems, instrumentation engineering, signal processing and other related areas. We hope this proceeding will contribute in stimulating debate and research among scholars, researchers and academicians. CEEE 2014 is to provide a forum for researchers, academicians, engineers, and government officials from all over the world to involved in the general areas of Electronics and Electrical Engineering to disseminate their latest research results and exchange views on the future research directions of these fields. This conference provides opportunities for the participants to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face.
Co-authored by an international research group with a long-standing cooperation, this book focuses on engineering-oriented electromagnetic and thermal field modeling and application. It presents important contributions, including advanced and efficient finite element analysis used in the solution of electromagnetic and thermal field problems for large and multi-scale engineering applications involving application script development; magnetic measurement of both magnetic materials and components under various, even extreme conditions, based on well-established (standard and non-standard) experimental systems; and multi-level validation based on both industrial test systems and extended TEAM P21 benchmarking platform. Although these are challenging topics, they are useful for readers from both academia and industry.
The 14th International Workshop on Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE) was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dayton, Ohio, USA in July 2009, where the ENDE activities in the Dayton area reflect the local aerospace industry. With 80 participants from over ten countries worldwide, this workshop provided an important opportunity for an international exchange of information and ideas. This book contains the proceedings of that workshop. From the 59 oral and poster presentations, 39 were submitted for publication. Of these, 37 peer-reviewed papers appear in this volume. These papers pr.
