Immune Regulations of Inflammatory Skin Diseases

Skin is our primary interface with the environment, and T cells are crucial for orchestrating host immune responses against pathogenic microorganisms. Dysregulated immune responses, on the other hand, can result in chronic inflammatory skin diseases. The complex regulatory networks include effector T cells, memory T cells, regulatory T cells, immunoregulatory co-signaling molecules and cytokines that control skin immunity, and the mechanisms that regulate skin immune responses in host defense and in immune-mediated cutaneous diseases. The immune-regulatory networks are involved in the common inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, bullous diseases, and cutaneous adverse drug reaction. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a forum to advance research on the contribution of skin inflammation to the genesis and development of the skin diseases as well as to explore innovative skin-oriented pharmacological interventions, mainly on the immune regulatory networks, in the attempt to achieve a beneficial impact on the skin disease course.

Metacinema in Contemporary Chinese Film

Depictions within a movie of either filmmaking or film watching are hardly novel, but the dramatic expansion of the reach of the metacinematic into contemporary Chinese cinemas is nothing short of remarkable. To G. Andrew Stuckey, the prevalence of metacinematic features forms the basis of a discourse on film arising from the films themselves. Such a discourse, in turn, outlines the boundaries of the possible for film in China as aesthetic or sociopolitical practice. Metacinema also draws our attention to the presence of the audience, people actively responding to a film. In elucidating the affective responses elicited by the metacinematic mode in the viewers, Stuckey argues that metacinema ...

Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Therapy

It is well established that the tumor microenvironment(TME) plays a pivotal role in tumor initiation, progression and therapeutic resistance by creating a dynamic interaction with cancer cells. TME is comprised of extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, nutrients, blood and lymphatic vessels, and non-cancer stromal cells, which serve as a sustained niche for cancer cells to proliferate and metastasize. Notably, various cellular components in TME, including endothelial cells, fibroblasts, pericytes, adipocytes, immune cells, cancer stem cells, and vasculature, could promote tumor’s immune evasion and growth.
