Performance Art in China
Performance Art in China takes as its subject one of the most dynamic and controversial areas of experimental art practice in China. In his comprehensive study, Sydney-based theorist and art historian Thomas J. Berghuis introduces and investigates the idea of the "role of the mediated subject of the acting body in art," a notion grounded in the realization that the body is always present in art practice, as well as its subsequent, secondary representations. Through a series of in-depth case studies, Berghuis reveals how, during the past 25 years, Chinese performance artists have "acted out" their art, often in opposition to the principles governing correct behavior in the public domain. In addition to a 25-year chronology of events, a systematic index of places, names and key terms, as well as a bibliography and a glossary in English and Chinese, this study also offers the reader numerous previously unpublished photos and documents.
Qiu Zhijie
This small book presents the large-scale maps made by Chinese artist Qiu Zhijie and departs from Blueprints, an exhibition at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam. To produce his maps and diagrams, the artist drew from major political and historical narratives, charting new paths, centres, nodes, and relationships, and scrutinizing the mutable boundaries that outline histories of world thought. The publication offers a reading on four works, and features essays from contemporary thinkers like Charles Esche, Chus Martínez, Eugene Y. Wang, and Bik Van der Pol. Inserted in the book is a foldout reproduction of Qiu Zhijie's intricate Map of the Third World.
Ink Art
"Featuring 70 works in various media--paintings, calligraphy, photographs, woodblock prints, video, and sculpture--that were created during the past three decades, Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China will demonstrate how China's ancient pattern of seeking cultural renewal through the reinterpretation of past models remains a viable creative path. Although all of the artists have transformed their sources through new modes of expression, visitors will recognize thematic, aesthetic, or technical attributes in their creations that have meaningful links to China's artistic past. The exhibition will be organized thematically into four parts and will include such highlights as Xu Bing's dramatic Book from the Sky (ca. 1988), an installation that will fill an entire gallery; Family Tree (2000), a set of vivid photographs documenting a performance by Zhang Huan in which his facial features--and his identity--are obscured gradually by physiognomic texts that are inscribed directly onto his face; and Map of China (2006) by Ai Weiwei, which is constructed entirely of wood salvaged from demolished Qing dynasty temples." --
Advanced Parallel Processing Technologies
This volume contains the papers presented at the 5th International Workshop on Advanced Parallel Processing Technologies, APPT 2003. This series of workshops is designed to strengthen the cooperation between the German and Chinese institutions active in the area of these technologies. It has continued to grow, providing an excellent forum for reporting advances in parallel processing technologies. The 5th workshop itself addressed the entire gamut of related topics, ranging from the architectural aspects of parallel computer hardware and system software to the applied technologies for novel applications. For this workshop, we received over 191 full submissions from researchers all over the world. All the papers were peer-reviewed in depth and qualitatively graded on their relevance, originality, signi?cance, presentation, and the overall appropriateness for their acceptance. Any concerns raised were discussed in the program committee. The organizing committee did an excellent job in selecting 78 papers (Among them, 21 were short ones) for presentation. In short, the papers included here represent the forefront of research from China, Germany, and the other countries.

Database Systems for Advanced Applications
The four-volume set LNCS 13943, 13944, 13945 and 13946 constitutes the proceedings of the 28th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications, DASFAA 2023, held in April 2023 in Tianjin, China. The total of 125 full papers, along with 66 short papers, are presented together in this four-volume set was carefully reviewed and selected from 652 submissions. Additionally, 15 industrial papers, 15 demo papers and 4 PhD consortium papers are included.
