Mr Miniscule and the Whale
Julian Tuwim (1894-1953) was one of Poland's leading poets. He won fame not just for his adult verse but also for his rhymes for children, many of which are classics known to every Polish child. He also wrote satirical verse and loved word games, inventing palindromes (whole sentences that read the same forwards and backwards), lipograms (whole paragraphs that leave out a particular letter),and tautograms (sentences where every word starts with the same letter). Nobody knows if he ever set out to sea to see a whale.Bohdan Butenko (born 1931) is one of Poland's top illustrators, whose drawings appear in more than 200 children's books. He is also famous for his animated cartoons - especially featuring Gucio the clumsy hippo and Cezar the sensible dog - as well as for his stage sets and television design. He has won many prizes, among them the 2012 Order of the Smile - a special medal awarded by children to adults who are particularly kind to them.

The Coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict by the Polish Media (2014-2015)
In this book, the author examines the media coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict by six Polish media outlets in 2014 and 2015. Using content analysis and in-depth interviews, the author explores how cultural and historical factors, as well as the national security threat to Poland, affected the media image of the conflict. Despite differences in editorial line, level of political parallelism and type of medium, the Polish media largely spoke with one voice. Interviews with journalists uncover how they view their role in reporting on the conflict, and how national prejudices had an impact on their work. The military and economic threat to Poland, resulting from Russia's actions, was the dominant tool of domestication used by the media to bring the dispute closer to the public.
Foreign Accent Perception
The phenomenon of foreign accents and their perception have received considerable attention from pronunciation specialists and academic researchers working within different fields of study, such as phonetics, phonology, foreign language teaching, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, social psychology, anthropology, and even law. The reason for this widespread interdisciplinary interest is caused by the fact that, in addition to revealing the speaker’s origin, accent carries significant social connotations and evokes various ethnic, racial, religious and socio-economic stereotypes. This book represents the largest, up-to-date qualitative and quantitative investigation into the accentedness, acceptability, intelligibility and comprehensibility of Polish English of three groups of native speakers, the English, the Irish and the Scottish, comparing the ways in which it is perceived by members of three nations and establishing pronunciation priorities.
