Archaeologies of Violence and Privilege
Violence is rampant in today's society. From state-sanctioned violence and the brutality of war and genocide to interpersonal fighting and the ways in which social lives are structured and symbolized by and through violence, people enact terrible things on other human beings almost every day. In Archaeologies of Violence and Privilege, archaeologists Christopher N. Matthews and Bradley D. Phillippi bring together a collection of authors who document the ways in which past social formations rested on violent acts and reproduced violent social and cultural structures. The contributors present a series of archaeological case studies that range from the mercury mines of colonial Huancavelica (AD 1564-1824) to the polluted waterways of Indianapolis, Indiana, at the turn of the twentieth century--a problem that disproportionally impacted African American neighborhoods. The individual chapters in this volume collectively argue that positions of power and privilege are fully dependent on forms of violence for their existence and sustenance.

La niña momificada de la Sierra Gorda de Querétaro
Esta obra es producto de un trabajo colectivo en torno al cuerpo momificado de una pequeña niña que data aproximadamente del año 340 antes de Cristo. Los restos momificados, su entorno ambiental y su contexto cultural se analizaron desde la perspectiva de las ciencias médicas, forenses, antropológicas y arqueológicas. Este esfuerzo científico permitió un mejor entendimiento de la vida y la muerte de los antiguos pobladores de esta región ubicada al sur de la Sierra Gorda, hoy Municipio de Cadereyta de Montes, Querétaro.

Orientaciones astronómicas en la arquitectura de Mesoamérica: Occidente y Norte
El libro presenta los resultados del estudio de las orientaciones en la arquitectura prehispánica en el Occidente y el Norte de Mesoamérica. Al analizar los datos que obtuvimos con mediciones en campo para diversos edificios cívicos y ceremoniales en 21 sitios arqueológicos, hemos podido concluir que fueron orientados mayormente a partir de criterios astronómicos. La muestra de datos es relativamente pequeña, pero proviene de un área extensa y culturalmente heterogénea, por lo que las orientaciones analizadas manifiestan un grado considerable de variabilidad.
