D'abord pour lui-même, pour tenter de comprendre, pour ne pas oublier, mais aussi pour ceux qui ne sont plus, qui ne pourront pas témoigner. Ne possédant pas de papier, c'est sur des formulaires du camp d'extermination qu'il commence à écrire son journal. Rassemblant ses forces physiques et psychiques, il raconte la bravoure et la cruauté, la folie, les petits gestes qui sauvent et ceux qui condamnent. Il consigne les faits, reconstitue la chronologie de ce voyage en enfer, de son arrestation par la Gestapo à Vichy jusqu'à la fin (toute relative) du cauchemar. Son témoignage n'a jamais été publié jusqu'à ce jour.
