This book aims to contribute to the knowledge of the cultural and linguistic relations between Italy and the Crown of Aragon in the 15th century. In particular, it studies some relevant aspects of the chivalric romance entitled Curial e Guelfa, written in Italy around 1443-1448 in Catalan, but mainly Italian in spirit, sources and onomastics. It is probably the very first work of a genre known as “humanistic chivalry”, the epitome of which will be Ariosto’s Orlando furioso. Antoni Ferrando, catedràtic de Filologia Catalana de la UV, s'ha jubilat el 2018, després de més de 40 anys de dedicació a la nostra Universitat, i ha estat nomenat professor emèrit. Després de la mort de Sanchis Guarner, amb qui treballà des dels inicis del Departament —aleshores de Lingüística Valenciana—, Ferrando en va ser el primer director, responsable de la formació de generacions de docents i d'altres professionals de la nostra llengua, i arribà a convertir-lo en un referent dins els estudis de la catalanística. Amb centenars de treballs publicats, ha anat construint una obra sòlida que, a hores d'ara, està lluny d'esgotar-se. Però la seua trajectòria no té només transcendència acadèmica sinó també social, en favor de la dignitat col·lectiva i l'anhelada normalitat cultural del País Valencià. The Ambassador Juan Ramírez de Lucena, the father of the chessbook writer Lucena
This is the first bibliography in English of the protonotary Juan Ramírez de Lucena (1430-1504) who was one of the ambassadors of the Catholic monarchs. He was the father of Lucena, the writer of a chess book that was published in Salamanca in 1997. Knowing the biography of the protonotary and his activities in Italy and France in the highest sphere of society it is clear that his son Lucena could take advantage of this, because his father had opened the door in many places. No doubt that during the life of the protonotary Juan Ramírez de Lucena his son visited these places in Italy and France, as Lucena himself confirmed in the chess treaty of 1497.
