İki ay sürekli çalıştım öykü üzerinde, ve, bitirir bitirmez, bir tek cümlesini okumadan, müsveddesini toplayıp masamın en alttaki çekmece gözüne sakladım. Düşünmüyorum öykü üzerine. Kompoziayonundan, alışılmış öykü sınırları içinde kalıp kalmadığından emin değilim. Teknik yapısı dışında stili, sanatsal değeri üzerine de düşünmüyorum. Düşünmeye gerek duymuyorum. Ne ki, öyküyü yazdığım sürece, İhtiyar Savaşçı ve Melek Hanım'la birlikte, kendimin de bugünkü Gurzuf'a ve Kızıltaş'a döndüğümü, ötekiler gibi, kendimi de cenaze törenine katıldığımı ve ötekilerle birlikte Gurfuz'un anacaddesinden geçip bayırdaki eski mezarlığa girdiğimi hisseder gibi oluyorum.
