He’s Just a Man
Forswears, murders, irrational decrees. Over the two millennium-long history of the Papacy, many, too many, mistakes and questionable and odd exploits have been carried out. In the present work, the author, far from attacking a single Pope, but rather with the clear intent of demolishing the dogma of Papal infallibility, lists all the barbaric acts of the Popes from the first century up to the present times. The work is marked by an innovative writing technique, one that has never been used before, characterized by extreme conciseness and a painstakingly precise bibliography of almost two-hundred works in order to provide quotes of the most relevant parts. The author wishes to push the reader to question the value of modern religious teaching with respect to the original teaching of Jesus, as well as to ask the reader what factors have caused Christianity to split into a variety of religious streams. He reminds us that the Catholic Church is the only one, among the three great doctrinal schisms, that has imposed celibacy upon its clergy. Could that be the reason?
Tracing Pathways 雲路
This volume collects contributions written by eight authors interested in different research areas in East Asian Studies. Divided into a Japanese and a Chinese section, it explores topics ranging from East Asian literatures to contact linguistics and sociology. The Japanese section contains four essays about contemporary Japanese cinema and different aspects of Japanese modern and contemporary literature (i.e. the literary motif of kame naku, ‘crying turtle’, yuri manga, and tenkō bungaku, the ‘literature of conversion’). The Chinese section concerns two main macro-topics: on the one hand, it focuses on issues related to cultural contacts between Italy and China; on the other hand, it deals with Chinese migration to Italy, highlighting socio-historical aspects and cultural production.

This volume explores the concept of magnificence as a social construction in seventeenth-century Europe. Although this period is often described as the ‘Age of Magnificence’, thus far no attempts have been made to investigate how the term and the concept of magnificence functioned. The authors focus on the way crucial ethical, religious, political, aesthetic, and cultural developments interacted with thought on magnificence in Catholic and Protestant contexts, analysing spectacular civic and courtly festivities and theatre, impressive displays of painting and sculpture in rich architectural settings, splendid gardens, exclusive etiquette, grand households, and learned treatises of moral philosophy. Credito e società romana nell'età moderna
La storia romana ha finalmente le pagine dedicate a un suo aspetto poco indagato: quello finanziario. L’Autore ha individuato nel nascente modello barocco, elementi nuovi adottati dall’élite per farvi ancora parte o decadere: l’attenzione al mercato , il profitto, la speculazione, il tornaconto individuale. Nel saggio viene privilegiato l’impianto comparatistico con l’Europa, nel tentativo di evidenziare affinità e diversità, come esige il più aggiornato circuito storiografico. Ne sono affiorate la comparsa della prima moneta “unica”, l’esigenza di manovrare il tasso d’interesse, i primi contrasti fra Stato e finanza, e soprattutto la rinunzia a quella spietata politica mercantilistica che vedrà decollare alcuni Paesi del Nord e avviare lo Stato ecclesiastico verso l’inevitabile decadenza.
