Absent Presences in the Colonial Archive
The Berlin Sound Archive (Lautarchiv) consists of an extensive collection of sound recordings, compiled for scientific purposes in the first half of the 20th century. Recorded on shellac are stories and songs, personal testimonies and poems, glossaries and numbers. This book engages with the archive by consistently focusing on recordings produced under colonial conditions. With a firm commitment to postcolonial scholarship, Absent Presences in the Colonial Archive is a historical ethnography of a metropolitan institution that participated in the production and preservation of colonial structures of power and knowledge. The book examines sound objects and listening practices that render the coloniality of knowledge fragile and inconsistent, revealing the absent presences of colonial subjects who are given little or no place in established national narratives and collective memories.

Between Imagined Communities and Communities of Practice
Community and participation have become central concepts in the nomination processes surrounding heritage, intersecting time and again with questions of territory. In this volume, anthropologists and legal scholars from France, Germany, Italy and the USA take up questions arising from these intertwined concerns from diverse perspectives: How and by whom were these concepts interpreted and re-interpreted, and what effects did they bring forth in their implementation? What impact was wielded by these terms, and what kinds of discursive formations did they bring forth? How do actors from local to national levels interpret these new components of the heritage regime, and how do actors within heritage-granting national and international bodies work it into their cultural and political agency? What is the role of experts and expertise, and when is scholarly knowledge expertise and when is it partisan? How do bureaucratic institutions translate the imperative of participation into concrete practices? Doch welche emotionalen Erfahrungen ermöglicht der spielerische Umgang mit virtueller Gewalt? Durch teilnehmende Beobachtungen in Online-Games und auf LAN-Partys sowie mithilfe von Interview-, Zeitschriften- und Videoanalysen arbeitet Christoph Bareither heraus, wie Millionen von Menschen etwas als vergnüglich erleben können, was andere schockiert. Ohne wertende Klischees zu bedienen, leistet die ethnografische Studie damit einen entscheidenden Beitrag zu einer Debatte am Schnittfeld von Populärkultur, Politik und Öffentlichkeit.
Spektrum Migration
Der Band „Spektrum Migration“ ist das Ergebnis der gleichnamigen interdisziplinären Tagung, die im November 2012 im Rahmen der 8. Tübinger kulturwissenschaftlichen Gespräche durchgeführt wurde. In ihrem Mittelpunkt stand das Interesse, gemeinsam über (kulturwissenschaftliche) Konzeptionsmöglichkeiten von und Herangehensweisen an Migration anhand von laufenden Forschungsprojekten zu diskutieren. Dem Titel entsprechend entwerfen die zwölf im Band versammelten Beiträge aus der Empirischen Kulturwissenschaft und benachbarten Disziplinen ein vielschichtiges Panorama der Migration. In diesen verknüpfen die Autor/innen Migration unter anderem mit den Bereichen Arbeit, Familie, Erinnerung sowie Identität und veranschaulichen zusammengenommen die Vielfalt an Migrationen.
Fastnacht erforschen
Mit “Fastnacht erforschen” legt Karin Bürkert eine Studie über die ungewöhnliche Kooperation zwischen Volkskundlern und Fastnachtsakteuren in den 1960er-Jahren vor. Sie stellt am Beispiel des „Tübinger Arbeitskreises für Fasnachtsforschung“ dar, wie Studierende, Professoren, Vereine, Journalisten und Archivare zusammenarbeiteten und den Brauch neu erforschten. Das Buch gibt Einblicke in den Arbeitsalltag dieses Forschungsverbundes und eröffnet neue Einsichten in die Fach- und Wissenskultur der Volkskunde im Umbruch zur Empirischen Kulturwissenschaft.
Christliche Freude als Glück?
Freude stellt ein zentrales Thema des christlichen Glaubens und der gegenwärtigen Kultur dar. Für die pastorale Praxis ist es daher von zukunftsweisender Bedeutung, sich der Freude zu vergewissern und diesbezüglich denk- und sprachfähig zu sein. Die vorliegende Studie versucht, zu diesem Projekt einen Beitrag zu leisten. Mittels der Methodik transversaler Weltentheologie werden hier fünf Optionen für eine zukunftsfähige Pastoral entwickelt und im Kontext aktueller pastoraltheologischer Forschung reflektiert. Mit diesen fünf Optionen liegen Diskussionsbeiträge im Hinblick auf eine zukünftige pastorale Praxis vor, die ihr zentrales Motiv darin sieht, christliche Freude als Glück zu kultivieren.
