Honey Analysis
The book Honey Analysis has 15 chapters divided into two sections: one section that is dedicated to the analysis of bioactive, physicochemical, and microbiological compounds and another that addresses techniques for the detection of residues and heavy metals. We have been able to compile a book with chapters by authors from nine countries (Brazil, Chile, Italy, Malta, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey) and at least three continents (South America, Europe, and Oceania). The topics discussed here are physical-chemical analysis of honey, new methods for amino acid analysis, chemical residues, heavy metals, phenolic content and bioactive components, microbiological analysis, antimicrobial activity, and honey as functional food. Also there are notions of trade and characterization of honey in these countries, presenting the reality of the local market of these countries and their perspectives so that we can know more about the techniques used as well as the importance of this activity for each country. This may facilitate the use of innovative techniques that may enable increased competitiveness and the world honey trade.
The Common Agricultural Policy after the Fischler Reform

Understanding the Role of Supply and Demand Factors in the Global Wheat Market
We present a Bayesian structural Vector Autoregressive model of the global wheat market to examine the relative importance of supply and demand shocks, which are interpreted as the fundamental driving forces of wheat price. To our knowledge, this is the first SVAR analysis that jointly considers (i) a Bayesian non-recursive specification, (ii) production and inventories as endogenous variables (iii) and an inventory-based detection strategy. Our main results indicate that: (i) the posterior median estimates for the price elasticity of supply and demand are mostly similar in their order of magnitude but opposite in signs (0.19 for supply and -0.20 for demand); (ii) the price and the inventories respond to global wheat market shocks differently, depending on the type of structural shock. We also show that the results obtained from Cholesy-type identified annual SVAR models for wheat market are potentially misleading and difficult to reconcile with the economic theory of competitive storage. Finally, we illustrate how unpredictable shifts in supply and demand contributed to the dynamic of wheat price between 2000 and 2022.
Patterns and Determinants of Off-Farm Migration
The inter-sectoral migration of agricultural labour is a complex but fundamental process of economic development largely affected by the growth of agricultural productivity and the evolution of the agricultural relative income gap. Theory and some recent anecdotal evidence suggest that as an effect of large fixed and sunk costs of out-farm migration, the productivity gap between the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors should behave non-monotonically or following a U-shaped evolution during economic development. Whether or not this relationship holds true across a sample of 38 developing and developed countries and across more than 200 EU regions was empirically tested. Results strongly confirm this relationship, which also emphasises the role played by national agricultural policy.
