Agglutinative Information
This book analyses 'incomplete sentences' in languages that utilise distinctively agglutinative components in their morphology. In the grammars of the languages dealt with in this book, there are certain types of sentences which are variously referred to as 'elliptical sentences' (Turkish eksiltili cumleler), 'incomplete sentences' (Uzbek to'liqsiz gaplar), 'cutoff sentences' (Turkish kesik cumleler), etc., for which the grammarians provide elaborated semantic and syntactic analyses. The current work attempts to present an alternative approach for the analysis of such sentences. The distribution of morphemes in incomplete sentences is examined closely, based on which a system of analysis that can handle a variety of incomplete sentences in an integrated manner is proposed from a morphological point of view. The linguistic data are taken from Turkish, Uzbek, Japanese, and (Bukharan) Tajik.

Scholarly journals are the capillaries of the scientific world, ensuring the circulation of knowledge. Moreover, scholarly journals guide and indicate the scientific development in an academic field of study or in a country. Scholarly journals, which transfer and spread scientific information, are intended to properly fulfill their functions, preventing the transfer of imperfect or incorrect information to the science world. Significant issues are, therefore, inevitable in the characteristics of scientific studies in such disciplines and countries where the scholarly journals do not fulfill their functions properly. This study encompasses all scholarly journals published in Turkey in all fields of science and other disciplines. The Mainz Meeting
Turcology in Mainz has been pursued as general and comparative Turcology. The 49 contributions to this conference reflect this interest and include titles on the history and linguistic structure of both Turkish and other Turkic languages. The main focus of the volume is on Turkish linguistic issues. A number of studies indifferent modern linguistic frameworks deal with Turkish morphological structures, communicative functions and referentiality, the function and syntax of converbs, thecategory of voice. Discussions on the structures of relative clauses constitute an important part of the volume. Us and Others
It is natural for people to make the distinction between in-group (Us) and out-group members (Others). What is it that brings people together, or keeps them apart? Linguistic Politeness Across Boundaries
This volume includes 14 papers investigating politeness phenomena in Greece and Turkey, the cultural cross-roads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It reflects current research and provides observations of and findings in patterns of linguistic politeness in a geographical area other than the much studied English speaking ones. The book appeals to professionals and students interested in a broader perspective of language use in its social context.Articles in the collection are empirically rather than theoretically oriented and examine realisations of politeness in relation to social parameters. The chapters have been arranged in pairs (Greek/Turkish), treating the following related issues: firstly a more general ethnographic picture of the two societies, the variables of power/status in classroom and other interaction, solidarity in advice-giving and the use of approbatory expressions, service encounters and the differential use of language by males and females, the use of interruptions in television talk, and finally compliments.
Essays on Turkish Linguistics
This book contains 48 papers presented at the Fourteenth International Conference on Turkish Linguistics, held by Ankara University in August 6-8, 2008.
