Die hier versammelten Aufsätze wurden von Forscherinnen und Forschern aus verschiedenen akademischen Disziplinen verfasst, was sich in der Reichhaltigkeit der behandelten Themen widerspiegelt. Der Sammelband enthält Zusammenfassungen und kritische Diskussionen mehrerer für Cassirers Philosophie wichtiger Konzepte – etwa die Bedeutung des Symbolischen oder des Mythos – sowie Erörterungen hinsichtlich des Einflusses von Cassirers Denken auf die Entwicklung bestimmter philosophischer Teildisziplinen, besonders der Sprachphilosophie und Philosophie der Mathematik. The European Social Model Adrift
This volume presents a new perspective for discussing the European social contract and its main challenges, bringing together single-nation and comparative studies from across Europe. Presenting both theoretical discussions and empirical case studies, it explores various aspects of social cohesion, including social protection, the labour market, social movements, healthcare, social inequalities and poverty. With particular attention to the effects of the international economic and financial crisis on social cohesion, particularly in the light of the implementation of so-called ’austerity measures’, authors engage with questions surrounding the possible fragmentation of the European model of social cohesion and the transformation of forms of social protection, asking whether social cohesion continues to represent - if it ever did - a common feature of European countries. Shakespeare Among Italian Criminologists and Psychiatrists, 1870s-1920s
Italians found another way to engage with Shakespeare besides opera. In 1923, Italian intellectual Piero Gobetti wrote that his age would be remembered as a curious chapter in the reception history of Shakespeare, when the Bard got entangled with ideas of criminal anthropology. In fact, the uses of Shakespeare by Lombroso’s school are now forgotten. In the second half of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare began to be portrayed as a genius who anticipated the findings of the Italian Positivist School, or, alternatively, as an authority who could debunk them. Shakespeare’s own psyche and the characters of his plays were explored and pathologised. These studies occasionally percolated into the practices of courthouses, prisons, hospitals, and asylums, and had an impact on the performance of Shakespeare’s plays. This volume provides an edition of hitherto uncollected primary sources which document these uses of Shakespeare. Each text has a parallel English translation, and is introduced by a preface providing details about the context and its main discursive stances. The volume also features a critical introduction and explanatory notes.

Le nostre generose reciprocità
Come resistere alla semplificazione della realtà a cui conducono la visione utilitaristica e neoliberale dell’individuo, ma anche la critica sistematica del dominio? Rendendo giustizia al lato luminoso del sociale, ciò che non richiede affatto di negare i suoi lati oscuri. Chanial esamina il legame amoroso, ma anche il desiderio come violenza. Dialogando con le teoriche del care, indaga la cura come un “potere dei deboli” che non è privo di lati oscuri. A fronte della crisi ecologica, egli propone un’“etica della Terra” e sottolinea l’urgenza di stabilire con la natura nuove forme di reciprocità. Infine, più che mai attuale è oggi la lezione di Marcel Mauss, che ci ricorda che solo riconoscendo le nostre generose relazioni di reciprocità è possibile (ri)tessere i fili di un mondo comune.
