The Oxford Handbook of Laboratory Phonology

This book provides state-of-the-art coverage of research in laboratory phonology. An Update on Neurological Disorders Post COVID-19 Infection

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), produces the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), with atypical pneumonia. This infection is a global health challenge producing post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), including neuro-PASC in which direct or indirect invasion of the virus into the brain causes immune dysregulation, hormonal disorders, elevated cytokine levels due to immune reaction and chronic inflammation, direct tissue injury, and persistent low-grade infection. The COVID-19 induced-neuroinflammation promotes blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, access of antigens and inflammatory factors into the brain, as well as infection or immune-mediated resp...

A Theory of Intergenerational Justice

This highly accessible book provides an extensive and comprehensive overview of current research and theory about why and how we should protect future generations. It exposes how and why the interests of people today and those of future generations are often in conflict and what can be done. It rebuts critical concepts such as Parfits' non-identity paradox and Beckerman's denial of any possibility of intergenerational justice. The core of the book is the lucid application of a veil of ignorance to derive principles of intergenerational justice which show that our duties to posterity are stronger than is often supposed. Tremmel's approach demands that each generation both consider and improve the well-being of future generations. To measure the well-being of future generations Tremmel employs the Human Development Index rather than the metrics of utilitarian subjective happiness. The book thus answers in detailed, concrete terms the two most important questions of every theory of intergenerational justice: what to sustain? and how much to sustain?

Diversity Dimensions in Mathematics and Language Learning

Extensive research is available on language acquisition and the acquisition of mathematical skills in early childhood. But more recently, research has turned to the question of the influence of specific language aspects on acquisition of mathematical skills. This anthology combines current findings and theories from various disciplines such as (neuro-)psychology, linguistics, didactics and anthropology.
