Cancer Research: An Interdisciplinary Approach

Cancer is a major public health concern and one of the leading causes of death. There is no simple solution for this complex disease, therefore interdisciplinary approaches might help to find solutions to many unanswered questions and challenges about cancer. The rapid flow of interdisciplinary research in cancer during recent years has increased our understanding of the nature of cancers. Such interdisciplinary approaches could be helpful for both the diagnosis and the development of more effective therapeutic strategies. The “Interdisciplinary Cancer Research” series publishes comprehensive volumes on different cancers and presents the most updated and peer-reviewed articles on human c...

Gerontology

Aging well and actively is the real objective of human being. This book is an up-to-date and realistic view on physiopathological mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases. The book includes topical contributions from multiple disciplines to support the fundamental goals of extending active life and enhancing its quality.

Immunogenetics

Because genetic factors can impact immune responses, and immunogenetic associations serve as a predictor of disease development and as a biological indicator of disease progression, the study of immunogenetics is important to basic genetics and immunology, as well as to translational and individualized medicine. This book addresses a few but important issues on the subject of immunogenetics. First, it will review the role that human leukocyte antigen molecules play in the immune system and then take into consideration the effectiveness of Western blotting for the detection of immunologic proteins. The book will discuss studies on the immunogenetics of cancer and tuberculosis followed by implications for immunotherapy. Working separately, the book will also provide evidence that the application of immunogenetics has improved our understanding of brain and behavior disorders.

Potential Therapeutic Strategies for Muscular Dystrophy

The book provides a comprehensive overview of the different forms of muscular dystrophy (MD), including potential therapeutic interventions and the advantages associated with repurposing pharmaceuticals for treating these conditions. In addition, the book examines the effects of physical training on improving symptoms as well as patient quality of life and life span. The target audience of this book comprises students, researchers, and doctors with an interest in the field of muscular dystrophy.

Muscular Dystrophies

Skeletal muscle is a highly plastic organ that is modulated by various pathways controlling protein turnover. Muscle loss is common in muscular dystrophy, in which marked loss of various proteins such as the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex occurs around muscle fibers. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the various muscular dystrophies, including characteristics, diagnosis, and classification. General treatment of drugs (e.g. corticosteroids) and physical therapy for muscular dystrophies are discussed. In addition, current applications for cell and tissue engineering using muscle stem cells or gene therapy are introduced. This book also deals with the recent advances in appropriate models of drug screening using cell cultures or mammalian organs in vitro in this field.

Demyelination Disorders

Demyelination disorders are among the most frequent neurological conditions. Types of these disorders include multiple sclerosis, Guillain Barré syndrome, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, entrapment neuropathies, and others, all of which can result in serious physical incapacity and diminished quality of life. This book examines various aspects of demyelination from clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic points of view. Chapters address different types of demyelination diseases, their associated mechanisms, and pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment approaches, among other topics.

Neuromuscular Diseases During Development

This compilation arises from contributions made to the seventh postgraduate course in paediatric neurology held in Pavia, Italy under the auspices of the Mariani Foundation in co-operation with the National Neurologic Institute of Milan. The course concentrated on three main areas: the impact of molecular biology and molecular genetics on aetiology, advances in our understanding pathogenesis, and finally therapy. The choice of the subject was suggested by the remarkable progress has been made in this field during the last decade, mostly due to the recent advances in genetics which now enable a new nosographic approach as well as different diagnostic strategies. Part of this work is dedicated to the rehabilitation of patients affected by neuromuscular diseases.

Trichinella and Trichinellosis provides an up-to-date account of the nematode Trichinella spp., including infections and diseases caused by this parasite in both animals and humans. This book will fill the long gap in time during which an exhaustive monograph on this subject has been missing in the international literature. The chapters have been written by the most prolific researchers in the world on the different aspects of Trichinella and trichinellosis. This book serves as an original resource for research on Trichinella and trichinellosis, exploring cutting-edge advances on such parasites and the infections they cause. This book will be a valuable resource for students, biologists, epi...

English Abstract: According to data published by the International Institute for Copper Studies (I.C.S.C.), world copper production increased in 2016 by 2.33%, and world consumption increased by 1.85%. According to the same analysts in the I.C.S.C., world production/consumption in the refined copper market indicates a 55,000 tonne deficit in 2016 and will continue to be weak in 2017, mainly due to the apparent increase in China's apparent consumption ( 2.5%).The annual average price of copper in 2016 was $ 4,862.85 / tonne, 11.61% lower than in 2015. Copper stocks in 2016 were 234,061 tons, 22.58% lower compared to 2015.
