A Regional Assessment of CO2 Storage Potential in the Browse Basin
"Geoscience Australia undertook a regional assessment of the geological CO2 storage potential of the Browse Basin, offshore northwest Australia, between 2013 and 2015 as part of the Australian Government's National CO2 Infrastructure Plan (NCIP). The NCIP program aimed to accelerate identification and development of suitable areas within Australia for long-term CO2 storage proximal to major emission sources. The Browse Basin was selected with two other offshore sedimentary basins and several onshore basins for pre-competitive data acquisition and geological studies under the NCIP funding."-- online abstract.
Prospective Hydrogen Production Regions of Australia
"There is significant interest in Australia, both federally and at the state level, to develop a hydrogen production industry. Australia's Chief Scientist, Alan Finkel, recently prepared a briefing paper for the COAG Energy Council outlining a road map for hydrogen. It identifies hydrogen has the potential to be a significant source of export revenue for Australia in future years, assist with decarbonising Australia's economy and could establish Australia as a leader in low emission fuel production. As part of the ongoing investigations into the hydrogen production potential of Australia, Geoscience Australia has been commissioned by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science to develop heat maps that show areas with high potential for future hydrogen production...-- Online abstract.

Geology at ANU (1959 - 2009)
This history was undertaken to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Geology Department at ANU, and to honour its founding professor David A. Brown. It includes contributions from some 100 former students outlining their career successes. This history was compiled by Dr Mike Rickard, a staff member of the Department of Geology from 1963 to 1997, who also served as Head of Department for seven years. He graduated BSc and PhD from Imperial College London in 1957 and has specialised in mapping the structure of mountain chains in Ireland, Canada, Norway, and southern South America. He also mapped volcanic rocks for the Geological Survey of Fiji. He taught Structural Geology and Tectonics and has supervised field work in south eastern and central Australia. After retirement he has taught U3A courses in Earth Science.
