Abstract: This study aimed to analyze computed tomographic (CT) imaging features of vaccinated and non-vaccinated COVID-19 patients. The study population of this retrospective single-center cohort study consisted of hospitalized COVID-19 patients who received a chest CT at the study site between July 2021 and February 2022. Qualitative scoring systems (RSNA, CO-RADS, COV-RADS), imaging pattern analysis and semi-quantitative scoring of lung changes were assessed. 105 patients (70,47% male, 62.1 ± 16.79 years, 53.3% fully vaccinated) were included in the data analysis. A significant association between vaccination status and the presence of the crazy-paving pattern was observed in univariate ...

This book is a comprehensive and richly-illustrated guide to cardiac CT, its current state, applications, and future directions. While the first edition of this text focused on what was then a novel instrument looking for application, this edition comes at a time where a wealth of guideline-driven, robust, and beneficial clinical applications have evolved that are enabled by an enormous and ever growing field of technology. Accordingly, the focus of the text has shifted from a technology-centric to a more patient-centric appraisal. While the specifications and capabilities of the CT system itself remain front and center as the basis for diagnostic success, much of the benefit derived from ca...

There should be, and in the best of cases there is, a synergy between basic research and patient care. However, this synergy is hard to develop because the techniques required to be a successful researcher are so different from the skills required to be an outstanding physician. Harold R. Roberts, M.D., of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is an example of a physician-researcher who has benefited from having his feet in both the world of patient care and the world of the laboratory: he has let clinical problems direct his basic research effort and conversely has adopted research advances in his care of patients. Dr. Roberts's long and continuing career has included many resear...

Neuroimmune Circuits, Drugs of Abuse, and Infectious Diseases

Introduction and Perspectives This volume is based on the proceedings of the 7th annual symposium on the topic Neuroimmune Circuits, Infectious Diseases and Drugs of Abuse, Bethesda, Maryland, Oc- ber 7–9, 1999. This symposium, as in the past, focused on newer knowledge concerning the relationship between the immune and nervous systems with regards to the effects of drugs of abuse and infections, including AIDS, caused by the immunodeficiency virus. Presentations discussed the brain-immune axis from the viewpoint of drugs of abuse rather than from the subject of the brain or immunity alone. The major aim of this series of conferences has been to clarify the consequences of immunomodulation...

Climate Change Biology

Climate Change Biology is a new textbook which examines this emerging discipline of human-induced climate change and the resulting shifts in the distributions of species and the timing of biological events. The text focuses on understanding the impacts of human-induced climate change, but draws on multiple lines of evidence, including paleoecology, modelling and current observation. Climate Change Biology lays out the scope and depth of understanding of this new discipline in terms that are accessible to students, managers and professional biologists. The only advanced student text on the biological aspects of climate change Examines recent and deep past climate change effects to better understand the impacts of recent human-induced changes Discusses the conservation and other ecological implications of climate change in detail Presents recipes for coping with accelerating climate change in the future Includes extensive illustrations with maps diagrams and color photographs
