Quem prefacia tem geralmente a posição de quem apresenta ou até introduz apoiado em sua suposta capacidade e competência, em seu conhecimento e renome. É sempre a postura de quem pode julgar a obra que está prefaciando e avalizá-la para o público a quem se destina. Um prefácio é um costume antigo que se torna a legitimação ou a validação da autoridade.
