Las enfermedades de baja prevalencia se han convertido en uno de los nuevos retos sociales. La investigación social no puede obviar esta realidad y debe enfrentarse a este complejo entorno social y biomédico. El contexto social de las patologías raras es complejo a causa de la gran cantidad de enfermedades que se encuentran dentro de este gran cajón de las enfermedades de baja prevalencia, de la diversidad de síntomas y efectos, de las carencias de tratamientos, de los problemas en el diagnóstico, de la complejidad en las interacciones moleculares de nuestro organismo, de las consecuencias psicosociales, del impacto social y educativo, etc. En el presente trabajo se pretende dar luz a algunos de estos aspectos.
