Review of Apanteles sensu stricto (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Microgastrinae) from Area de Conservaci?n Guanacaste, northwestern Costa Rica, with keys to all described species from Mesoamerica
The present paper deals with 205 species of Apanteles (Hymenoptera, Braconidae: Microgastrinae) from Mesoamerica, including 186 new species from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), Costa Rica. The limits of the genus Apanteles sensu stricto are reassessed, and all Mesoamerican species are assigned to 32 species-groups, all but two of which are newly defined. Taxonomic keys are presented in traditional dichotomous print versions and links to electronic interactive versions (software Lucid 3.5). Numerous illustrations, computer-generated descriptions, distributional information, wasp biology, and DNA barcodes (where available) are presented for every species. All morphological terms are detailed and linked to the Hymenoptera Anatomy Ontology website. About 90% of the wasp species with known host records seem to be monophagous or oligophagous at some level, parasitizing just one host family and commonly, just one species of caterpillar. The ACG species of Apanteles attack mainly species of Hesperiidae, Elachistidae and Crambidae (Lepidoptera).

The Sirex woodwasp, Sirex noctilio, is the most important invasive alien insect pest of Pinus plantations in the Southern Hemisphere. It now also threatens pines in North America. On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Ross T. Bell, Professor Emeritus of Entomology at the University of Vermont, his colleagues and former students staged a Festschrift in his honor that included his wife and oft-times co-author, Joyce Bell. Two days of scientific presentations and a field day resulted in twenty-six manuscripts on such diverse organisms as Coleoptera, Collembola, and Diptera and in such disparate fields as taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, with a sprinkling of natural history and cyberinfrastructure. Mostly, the theme of the papers focus on the beetle family Carabidae, on which the Bells spent a number of decades in pursuit of information on taxonomy and biology, particularly for the wrinkled bark beetles, the rhysodines. Twenty-six scientific contributions make up this volume and they are introduced by the preface and first two papers on the Bells themselves and their other contributions to teaching and natural history studies in the environs of Burlington, Vermont.

The Doryctinae (Braconidae) of Costa Rica: genera and species of the tribe Heterospilini
This study presents a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the four genera and 287 species of the tribe Heterospilini (Hymenoptera: Doryctinae) that occur in Costa Rica. This tribe is represented almost entirely by the hyperdiverse genus Heterospilus Foerster that includes 280 species, 277 of which are described as new to science. Keys are presented to allow the identification of all genera and species; all species are illustrated by scanning electron micrographs and most by color photographs. In addition, an interactive key was prepared using Lucid Builder and is hosted on the Lucid web site. Although very little is known about the biology of this tribe, species of Heterospilus are known to parasitize a very wide range of endophytic, mostly stem- or wood-boring Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. It is hoped that this study will be of benefit to overall studies of biodiversity in the tropics, and provide valuable information for biological control projects against forest pests, not only in Costa Rica, but also throughout the Western Hemisphere.
