The Serpent Girdle

One morning, five years ago, three odd looking icons arrived from nowhere on my computer screen. Rather mysteriously, many months were to pass before I was able to open the files they contained – although you can imagine my surprise when I realised they claimed to have been sent from the far future. It turns out that they were a time-locked message, posted by a guy called Tom Myers, and that he wanted to expose the ‘Science-Magic Properties’ of something he called The Serpent Girdle. The files haunted me and inevitably I soon found myself editing Tom’s simply written text; tidying his words to make a better story for others to read… could his account of things to come be true? Could time travellers invisibly visit us… are they here now?Set around Torbay, and including several real events, The Serpent Girdle takes the reader on a journey from 1951 to 2358. The tone begins in the style of the ‘50s and progresses to have a modern, then futuristic ‘feel’. Accompanying illustrations follow in the same manner.

Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes

The principal aim of this text is to encourage the development and application of numerical modelling techniques as an aid to achieving greater efficiency and optimization of metal-forming processes. The contents of this book have therefore been carefully planned to provide both an introduction to the fundamental theory of material deformation simulation, and also a comprehensive survey of the "state-of-the-art" of deformation modelling techniques and their application to specific and industrially relevant processes. To this end, leading international figures in the field of material deformation research have been invited to contribute chapters on subjects on which they are acknowledged expe...

Triiiple Vision

When Luke’s mother and sister are tragically killed, his father sinks into a deep depression. To cope with this difficult situation, the boy begins exploring the surrounding countryside, filling a sketchbook with his drawings. Alone one day on a small beach, he slips and falls, hitting his head badly. Regaining consciousness, he discovers that he has triple vision; three almost identical images overlay one another. But which one should he trust? Noticing the figure of a young girl, Luke makes a decision and struggles to recover. But he finds his surroundings are very different; there are no buildings and no sign of the steps he descended earlier. Rubbing his head, he finds his hair is long and unkempt. Moreover, his clothing is crudely handmade. Looking up, he recognises the girl, and the first part of an astonishing adventure begins. But are Luke’s experiences real or has he created everything in his mind whilst unconscious?Triiiple Vision, which has been illustrated by Ian, has been inspired by a number of authors including Philip Reeve, Garth Nix and Philip Pullman. It will appeal to young adult readers aged 14-18 years.

What is the mystery of the crop circles? Are they manmade or supernatural? Today the majestic crop formations grace the very same pastures of southern England that in the past were the haunts of fairies, hobgoblins, and mysterious lights. Here, too, are some of Britain's most spectacular prehistoric landscapes: Stonehenge, Avebury, and Silbury Hill all act as ominous backdrops to the crop circle phenomenon. Did our ancestors know something about this beguiling, enchanting landscape that we are only now waking up to for the first time? Is there a higher intelligence responsible for such creations, and if so, who are they and what are they trying to tell us? Bizarrely, the answer might lie not here on earth, but 37,000 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus, the Northern Cross, where lurks a star perhaps responsible not only for the foundation of the world's earliest stone monuments but for the emergence of humanity itself.
