Inquadrato nel filone di studi sociologici dei movimenti sociali, questo volume analizza il processo di mobilitazione dei familiari dei desaparecidos nell’attuale cornice messicana della “Guerra al narcotraffico” e approfondisce, al contempo, il contesto socio-politico di riferimento e il ciclo di proteste per i diritti umani sorto a seguito della recente escalation di violenza. Il focus prevalente è però il vissuto dei familiari delle vittime di sparizione e il processo di coinvolgimento e partecipazione all’azione collettiva che ne consegue, con speciale attenzione alla questione identitaria. Il lavoro si basa su una ricerca sul campo in Messico a stretto contatto con i familiari di “Fuerzas Unidas por Nuestros Desaparecidos en Coahuila y en México” (FUUNDEC-FUNDEM), un collettivo che ha saputo organizzare la protesta e stimolare importanti leggi e politiche pubbliche nonostante la violenza, l’impunità e la corruzione politico-istituzionale che caratterizzano il paese.
