Anti-Asian Racism and Public Health

Racist and xenophobic hate against Asian Americans in the midst of the COVID pandemic has been a significant threat to Asian Americans’ health – stemming from a deeply rooted Yellow Peril ideology, which racializes Asians as a threat to United States and Western culture including re-imagining Asians as a diseased public health threat. Studies have documented that Asian Americans who have experienced anti-Asian racism during the pandemic report that they are more concerned about the racism than the pandemic itself, and nearly one in five Asian Americans who experienced racism display racial trauma – the psychological and emotional harm caused by racism.

Teaching Diversity Relationally

Teaching Diversity Relationally: Engaging Emotions and Embracing Possibilities offers process-oriented guidance for negotiating the psychological and relational challenges inherent in teaching about race, privilege, and oppression. The authors develop an intersectional social justice framework for Transformative Education that emphasizes five emotional-relational pillars of successful teaching for diversity: cultivating reflexivity and exploration of positionality; engaging emotions; fostering p...

Wide bandgap semiconductors, made from such materials as GaN, SiC, diamond, and ZnSe, are undergoing a strong resurgence in recent years, principally because of their direct bandgaps, which give them a huge advantage over the indirect gap Sic As an example, more than 10 million blue LEDs using this technology are sold each month, and new, high brightness (15 lumens per watt), long-life white LEDs are under development with the potential to replace incandescent bulbs in many situations. This book provides readers with a broad overview of this rapidly expanding technology, bringing them up to speed on new discoveries and commercial applications. It provides specific technical applications of key processes such as laser diodes, LEDs, and very high temperature electronic controls on engines, focusing on doping, etching, oxidation passivation, growth techniques and more.

Perfectionism has included two core aspects: striving for perfectionistic standards and perceived discrepancy between ideal and actual achievement. Researchers have used these two aspects to classify different types of perfectionists. There were two projects included in this project with two overarching aims. First, the study was designed to explore how many distinct types of perfectionists classify the two minority samples. Second, the study compared these types on outcome measures. Study 1included 99 college students (84% female) of predominantly Hispanic or Latino descent. Cluster analysis classified this sample into three distinct types of perfectionists: adaptive perfectionists (high st...
