This work explains how to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, namely: how to understand the influence of cultures and subcultures on others' behaviour and attitudes, and how to communicate across the barriers created by these differences. The author relates the emerging discipline of intercultural communication to the practical needs of people at work. The book contains eight key intercultural communication theories presented from a European perspective. With a strong focus on work applications, it provides many real life examples illustrating practice. An instructor's manual is also available.

Genomics in Aquaculture to Better Understand Species Biology and Accelerate Genetic Progress

From a global perspective aquaculture is an activity related to food production with large potential for growth. Considering a continuously growing population, the efficiency and sustainability of this activity will be crucial to meet the needs of protein for human consumption in the near future. However, for continuous enhancement of the culture of both fish and shellfish there are still challenges to overcome, mostly related to the biology of the cultured species and their interaction with (increasingly changing) environmental factors. Examples of these challenges include early sexual maturation, feed meal replacement, immune response to infectious diseases and parasites, and temperature a...

Francesc Eiximenis

A selection from the works of the Catalan Franciscan, Francesc Eiximenis. Francesc Eiximenis is an outstanding figure in the ranks of the mendicant orders who, in the late Middle Ages, strove to educate the lower echelons of society. Born in Gerona, around 1330, probably to a comfortable middle-class family, Eiximenis entered the Franciscan order at a very early age, studied in Oxford, and probably also in Paris, and obtained the degree of master of theology in Toulouse. Later he combined teaching with the composing of his works. Among these stands out the monumental and widely known Lo Crestià (The Christian), in which Eiximenis aimed to include all contemporary university knowledge, adapt...
