Embodied Grounding
In recent years there has been an increasing awareness that a comprehensive understanding of language, cognitive and affective processes, and social and interpersonal phenomena cannot be achieved without understanding the ways these processes are grounded in bodily states. The term 'embodiment' captures the common denominator of these developments, which come from several disciplinary perspectives ranging from neuroscience, cognitive science, social psychology, and affective sciences. For the first time, this volume brings together these varied developments under one umbrella and furnishes a comprehensive overview of this intellectual movement in the cognitive-behavioral sciences. The chapters review current work on relations of the body to thought, language use, emotion and social relationships as presented by internationally recognized experts in these areas.
Business Ethics and Digitization
In this collection, we bring together various disciplines that are critically engaged in reflecting the diverse aspects of digitization in business, politics, ethics, and education. Accordingly, the volume will provide a provocative discourse space, were the key theoretical and practical problems of implementing ethics in digitization will be discussed and assessed. Moreover, we aim to create a bridge between two (hitherto) mostly separate discourses: the ethical discourse of issues of digitization and the discourse on ethical standards and their implementation in the area of business. These discourses are greatly in need of being joined together, since the vast majority of ethical standards in the field of digitization will have to be implemented by companies, not government agencies, NGOs or other non-profit organisations. We believe that this particular selection of articles is a first step towards creating this bridge.
The Responsibilities of Online Service Providers
This volume focuses on the responsibilities of online service providers (OSPs) in contemporary societies. It examines the complexity and global dimensions of the rapidly evolving and serious challenges posed by the exponential development of Internet services and resources. It looks at the major actors – such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Yahoo! – and their significant influence on the informational environment and users’ interactions within it, as well as the responsibilities and liabilities such influence entails. It discusses the position of OSPs as information gatekeepers and how they have gone from offering connecting and information-sharing services to paying members to providing open, free infrastructure and applications that facilitate digital expression and the communication of information.
