The 'Amber Room" treasure hunt is different from most searches for riches; it actually begins at the end of a war as a quest for blood and bone-men, desperate criminal men, trying to avoid prosecution for war crimes. The Allies are trying to capture these men, who now seek refuge in the West, by slipping by their captors disguised as ordinary citizens. Wolves pretending to be sheep; rats masquerading mice.hence the tag line for their route, a Rat Line. Our heroes are counterintelligence GI's, who have a hard time convincing their superiors that such a Rat Line really exists. They even risk court martial to prove their point. The war ends and the discouraged Allies turn their attention to more materially rewarding activity: finding this immense fortune stolen by the Nazis and hidden in the Soviet Zone of occupation. First they have to crack the information out of the Nazi who stole it, now a prisoner in Colditz Castle, find it, then ferret it out of a Europe swarming with refugees, communists, starving patriots, and desperate ideologues. Along the way they become woodsmen, gypsies, and members of a circus. But, will their disguises pay off?

Counting on Computers: New Information Technologies and Curricular Change in East Germany, 1960s to 1990 is a compelling exploration of socialist ambitions for a computerised future and how computer technology was imagined to reshape education and socialist society in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It delves into the positive visions of a computerised future embraced by the country's one-party leadership, and examines how these visions influenced educational policy and curricula as computers were introduced into workplaces and schools. The book provides readers with a comprehensive perspective on the historical development of computer education in the GDR, highlighting the crucial links between the integration of computers in different sectors of the educational system, as well as in society and the socialist economy at large. By uncovering this lesser-known aspect of East German history, the book sheds light on the intricate and multifaceted relationship between technology, ideology, and education.

Social participation is an important means for governments to develop responsive health policies and programmes, which are more likely to be implemented by a broad stakeholder group. It is at the heart of the inclusive governance needed for countries to stake their individual paths towards Universal Health Coverage while ensuring that no one is left behind. As simple as it may seem in theory, it is a complex undertaking in practice, one which policy-makers struggle with. The Handbook on Social Participation for UHC is thus designed to provide practical guidance, anchored in conceptual clarifications, on strengthening meaningful government engagement with the population, communities, and civi...
