The Ten Commandments
The Decalogue, commonly known as the Ten Commandments, is usually analysed as a text. Within the Hebrew Bible, however, it is depicted as a monument– an artifact embedded in rituals that a community uses to define itself. Indeed, the phraseology, visual representations, and ritual practices of contemporary monuments used to describe the Ten Commandments imbue them with authority. In this volume, Timothy Hogue, presents a new translation, commentary, and literary analysis of the Decalogue through a comparative study of the commandments with inscribed monuments in the ancient Levant. Drawing on archaeological and art historical studies of monumentality, he grounds the Decalogue's composition and redaction in the material culture and political history of ancient Israel and ancient West Asia. Presenting a new inner-biblical reception history of the text, Hogue's book also provides a new model for dating biblical texts that is based on archaeological and historical evidence, rather than purely literary critical methods.

The Two Houses of Israel
The Two Houses of Israel: State Formation and the Origins of Pan-Israelite Identity bridges the gap between the biblical narrative of the great united monarchy ruled by David and Solomon and archaeological and historical reconstructions of a gradual, independent formation of Israel and Judah. Based on a thorough examination of the material remains and settlement patterns in the southern Levant during the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age and on a review of the relevant historical sources, this book provides a detailed reconstruction of the ways in which Israel and Judah were formed as territorial polities and specifically how the house of David rose to power in Jerusalem and Judah. Omer Sergi further situates the stories of Saul and David in their accurate social and historical context in order to illuminate the historical conception of the united monarchy and the pan-Israelite ideology out of which it grew. Sergi provides a new history of the early Israelite monarchies, their formation, and the ways in which these social and political developments were commemorated in the cultural memory of generations to come.
The Shape of Stories
How were narratives composed in the ancient Near East? What patterns and principles, constraints and considerations guided the shaping of cuneiform stories? The study of narrative structures has emerged as a promising approach to the textual heritage of the cuneiform world. Engaging with practically any ancient text—whether literary, historical, or religious—requires some understanding of the narrative forms that shaped their content. Dothan
The city of Dothan appears both in the Joseph narratives (Genesis 37) and as the city to which Elisha the prophet fled from the Arameans--and where the king of the Arameans sent an army to attempt to retrieve him (2 Kings 6:13). In the late 1950s and early 1960s, excavations at the site were sponsored by Wheaton College (Illinois), with Joseph P. Free as Director. This first volume publishes the results of those excavations and will be welcomed by all who wish to study the material at greater length. Chapters on the history of the expedition, methodology, Early Bronze Age and Late Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras are complemented by studies on stone and metal artifacts, Iron II seal impressions, and Rhodian stamp seal impressions. The volume is profusely illustrated, with more than 200 photos and drawings and 2 color plates. Volume 2 of the series will report on the Western Cemetery at Dothan, which was the source of a rich repertoire of Late Bronze Age pottery.
