In an era of promising advances in cancer research, there are considerable and even alarming gaps in the fundamental knowledge and understanding of ovarian cancer. Researchers now know that ovarian cancer is not a single disease-several distinct subtypes exist with different origins, risk factors, genetic mutations, biological behaviors, and prognoses. However, persistent questions have impeded progress toward improving the prevention, early detection, treatment, and management of ovarian cancers. Failure to significantly improve morbidity and mortality during the past several decades is likely due to several factors, including the lack of research being performed by specific disease subtype...
A critical survey of key issues in the analysis of propositional attitude reports, a central topic in natural language semantics.
Covering over fifteen years of research, this compilation offers the first comprehensive review of the relationships between self-efficacy, adaptation, and adjustment. It discusses topics such as depression, anxiety, addictive disorders, vocational and career choice, preventive behavior, rehabilitation, stress, academic achievement and instruction, and collective efficacy. Jules Spinatsch's answer to the traditional distinction between applied & free photography can best be described as a cheerful "do-as-you-please" approach. His independent works express his personal artistic beliefs: they are keen-sighted & probingly experimental, capturing atmospheric moments of Spinatsch's immediate surroundings. His images are of an enthralling beauty, & in his close-ups Spinatsch conveys the relevance & charm of minute details. In his series We Will Never Be So Close Again he portrays motorists snoozing at the wheel--images that border on the ethereal. Brand New Animals deals with the artistic depiction of nature, which Spinatsch introduces to the reader as an alternative world.
Right in the middle of the German constitution, a group of ordinary citizens discovers a forgotten clause that allows them to take 240,000 homes back from multi-billion corporations. In this work of creative non-fiction, scholar-activist and Nine Dots Prize winner Joanna Kusiak tells the story of a grassroots movement that convinced a million Berliners to pop the speculative housing bubble. She offers a vision of urban housing as democratically held commons, legally managed by a radically new institutional model that works through democratic conflicts. Moving between interdisciplinary analysis and her own personal story, Kusiak connects the dots between the past and the present, the local and the global, and shows the potential of radically legal politics as a means of strengthening our democracies and reviving the rule of law. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.
When children are growing up they are not interested in family history. If I should bring the subject up the answer would usually be, “I know Dad, when you were young you milked ten cows before breakfast and walked ten miles to school – in the snow!”. It wasn’t that they didn’t care they were not interested. However, when they married and had children of their own they wanted to know more of the family history so they could pass it on to their children. “Dad, we don’t know anything about your family history, fill us in.” Now they were interested. That started me to thinking. I didn’t know much about my family tree. I would give anything to know more about my parent’s background and everyday life when they were growing up, guess I never asked! It occurred to me if I started writing a few facts about myself, in two or three generations future grandchildren would know. People who have read my story have said it has given them the idea to do the same for their children. One of the many reasons for writing Flowers For Cina, is to encourage parents to write about their everyday life.
