Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to describe the mechanism of subintimal shift (SIS), standardise diagnostic criteria and sensitise the interventional community to this phenomenon. The treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTO) by means of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is complicated by bifurcation lesions involved in the CTO segment or adjacent to it. Extraplaque expansion of intracoronary devices during CTO PCI may extend the dissection plane over the bifurcation with the consequential side or main branch compression by an intimo-medial flap. This phenomenon is hereby described for the first time and named subintimal shift. Methods: Experienced CTO operators from...

Spectral, Photon Counting Computed Tomography is a comprehensive cover of the latest developments in the most prevalent imaging modality (x-ray computed tomography (CT)) in its latest incarnation: Spectral, Dual-Energy, and Photon Counting CT. Disadvantages of the conventional single-energy technique used by CT technology are that different materials cannot be distinguished and that the noise is larger. To address these problems, a novel spectral CT concept has been proposed. Spectral Dual-Energy CT (DE-CT) acquires two sets of spectral data, and Spectral Photon Counting CT (PC-CT) detects energy of x-ray photons to reveal additional material information of objects by using novel energy-sensitive, photon-counting detectors. The K-edge imaging may be a gateway for functional or molecular CT. The book covers detectors and electronics, image reconstruction methods, image quality assessments, a simulation tool, nanoparticle contrast agents, and clinical applications for spectral CT.
This book provides a comprehensive account of the modern theory for the dynamical properties of polymer solutions. The theory has undergone dramatic evolution over the last two decades due to the introduction of new methods and concepts that have extended the frontier of theory from dilute solutions in which polymers move independently to concentrated solutions where many polymers converge. Among the properties examined are viscoelasticity, diffusion, dynamic light scattering, and electric birefringence. Nonlinear viscoelasticity is discussed in detail on the basis of molecular dynamical models. The book bridges the gap between classical theory and new developments, creating a consistent picture of polymer solution dynamics over the entire concentration range.
"Have you ever wanted to get rid of everything you own and move someplace unfamiliar? This is a true modern-day immigration tale of how Karethe and her husband Jaime left a North American city of millions for a small, rural mountain town in Andalucƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚a. What are the challenges of a transatlantic move in the 21st century? Will an outsider ever be fully welcomed, especially when settling in a very Catholic, hyper-traditional community located way off the freeway system? Take the leap with Karethe and Jaime and discover a world of priceless riches, where passions and tempers run high, kisses are abundant, and where "Help thy neighbour" really means something. "
“It was one of those periods that you got through, as opposed to enjoyed. It wasn’t an environment that . . . was nurturing, so you shut it out. You just got through it. You just took it a day at a time. You excelled if you could. You did your best. You felt as though the eyes of the community were on you.”—Glenda Wilson, East Side Junior High Much has been written about the historical desegregation of Little Rock Central High School by nine African American students in 1957. History has been silent, however, about the students who desegregated Little Rock’s five public junior high schools—East Side, Forest Heights, Pulaski Heights, Southwest, and West Side—in 1961 and 1962. Th...
