Everyday Islam

Ishma'il doesn't shy away from controversial subjects. So have an open mind. Because this book is not about appreciating poetry and philosophy as much as it is about applying the wisdom of the Qur'an and Sunnah to our everyday lives. It's a daily devotional. And all of the selections of this book are but expressions of the author and how he engages with the source material of Islam and how he understands it. And he hopes that his anecdotal style makes this 1,400+ year religion more palatable and easier to understand from a modern urban voice. So it intentionally avoids sounding academic, it wants to sound real, applying faith to real life. So please open the book. Get ready to be engaged mentally and spiritually. Because everyone will get something from it, God willing, even if you are not a Muslim.

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is not a call to war. These selected sermons by a Black Muslim cleric speak to the issues plaguing the African American community. It is a call, however, to a mental, and spiritual (not militant) revolution, an Involution of a sort. Although this book does speak about us getting involved in the community and taking action. And it is a call for us to struggle against injustice, but it stops short of an all-out jihad. However, it does echoes the sentiments and concerns of many of the Black clergy tied to the grassroots movement for justice in America. And If the message contained within these pages are not headed, and the issues of inequality, poverty, and discrimination is not addressed, then violent revolution may be the only recourse. You have been warned.

A Wicked Pack Of Cards is a poem with a kaleidoscope of different voices. It is a place where a keynote speaker chatters with a green knight; an old God teases a lost businessman with the prospect of a career-changing riddle; and where Europe's most famous Business Magician offers salvation to all those who believe in his wicked pack of cards. Set in no particular time, A Wicked Pack Of Cards asks what might happen in a world after our version of reality ceases to exist. It feels post-apocalyptic. It mixes old stories, traditions and superstitions with the digital fantasies, Venn diagrams and strategies of the commercial world. What would happen if the great business consultants of our time discovered paganism and sorcery? This. This would happen. The poem is made up of thirteen-cards and a riddle. Each one is a spell - a business spell. It will take you down the dark back-alleyways of burnout, depression and imposter syndrome. Yes, A Wicked Pack of Cards is dark; but read carefully, and it will eventually deliver you into the light of optimism and the most powerful spell of all: true love.

Blount County was carved out of the territory ceded to the State by the Creek Indians following their defeat at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The earliest settlers began streaming into the former wilderness as early as 1817. Blount was originally a large county, but over the decades pieces were taken to make up other adjoining counties such as Jefferson, Marshall, Etowah, and Cullman. Every cemetery within the contemporary boundaries of Blount was visited by the author and each readable tombstone was copied to develop the contents of this three volume series. Most of the cemeteries were read in 2002. Volume 1 covers alphabetically H through P, beginning with the Hipp Family Cemetery and concluding with the Phillips Cemetery (sometimes called the Old County Line Cemetery). This book is vital to any serious student of Blount County genealogy and history.
