Noradrenergic Mechanisms in Parkinson's Disease examines fundamental and clinical evidence explaining the progression of the disease. Featuring contributions from acknowledged international experts in the field, this book defines ideopathic Parkinson's disease and covers such topics as the alterations in Parkinson's disease, norepinephrine-dopamine interactions, noradrenergic control of striatal dopamine release, glial cells as targets of the central noradrenergic systems, and a theory regarding noradrenergic mechanisms in Parkinson's disease. New directions for research on Parkinson's disease are also explored.
Accessible handbook covering the investigation, diagnosis and management of transient ischemic attacks and minor strokes.
Abstracts contains the abstracts of work presented at the 7th International Congress of Pharmacology: invited lectures, symposia, methodological seminars, and free communications. The abstracts are organized in chronological order of presentation at the Congress. Some abstracts focus on chemistry and biochemistry of pituitary endorphins and their precursors; the biosynthesis and release of the enkephalins; enkephalin dynamics and neuronal localization; and physiological and pathophysiological relevance of the opiate receptors and their endogenous ligands. Other papers center on the mechanism of muscarinic receptor action; regulation of cholinergic receptor metabolism in skeletal muscle; the role of vitamin E in ozone-induced pulmonary toxicity; alcohol and electrophysiology of the central nervous system; and pharmacokinetic aspects of drug-alcohol interaction.

At the same time, the studies present important implications for advertising practitioners and academics alike. Written by communications scholars from North America, Europe and Asia, the studies encompass a range of research techniques including experiments, surveys, content analyses and depth interviews. The book provides important insights into current practice as well as directions for future research. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Advertising.
This book focuses on American opera singers and what their recordings say about their artistry. It is not a book about all American opera singers, since many who had important careers on stage, made few, if any, recordings. And many of those who did make recordings, did so prior to the introduction of electrical recording in 1925 (and the resulting advances in the reproduction of the human voice). Opera enthusiasts can only imagine the sound of Farinelli's voice or read what his contemporaries have written about it, but with almost any famous or near-famous singer of recent years, enthusiasts do not have to imagine. Their voices are available through the technology of sound recording. There are 53 entries, one each for 52 singers and a composite entry for a group of Hollywood vocalists. Each entry contains biographical information and is followed by a discography of operatic recordings to be used in conjunction with the critical commentaries. The entries are in alphabetical order by the singer's last name and provide critical analyses of key recordings and of the artists' gifts and limitations.
